Job Summary
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a C17 Aircraft Structures Mechanic I to support C-17 depot-level maintenance in San Antonio, TX. This role performs troubleshooting, structural repairs, and component replacement on aircraft systems including structure, landing gear, flight controls, pneudraulic systems, engines, APU, and environmental systems.
The Structures Mechanic uses a wide range of tools and equipment-hand tools, pneumatic tools, sheet-metal brakes, welding equipment, drills, and precision measurement devices-to diagnose issues, repair components, and perform critical structural modifications. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement of this position.

Job Summary
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a C17 Aircraft Structures Mechanic I to support C-17 depot-level maintenance in San Antonio, TX. This role performs troubleshooting, structural repairs, and component replacement on aircraft systems including structure, landing gear, flight controls, pneudraulic systems, engines, APU, and environmental systems.
The Structures Mechanic uses a wide range of tools and equipment-hand tools, pneumatic tools, sheet-metal brakes, welding equipment, drills, and precision measurement devices-to diagnose issues, repair components, and perform critical structural modifications. Responsibilities
- Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, and installation work on critical aircraft structures and fracture-critical areas.
- Locate and access blind holes for installation of new structural components.
- Conduct sealing, painting, shimming, and preservation of aircraft structures per standard repair processes.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, specifications, and retrofit requirements.
- Use assembly fixtures and depot-level tooling for structural repairs and modifications.
- Troubleshoot aircraft mechanical components and replace defective parts.
- Perform sheet-metal repairs and determine the functionality of simple electrical systems.
- Operate aircraft-specific tools such as torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, tensiometers, and sheet-metal brakes/shears.
- Access and input data using computer maintenance systems; initiate parts and discrepancy requests.
- Maintain required certifications, permits, and compliance with site procedures (SA Tool Control, FOD prevention, safety/lockout-tagout).
- Ascend/descend ladders, work in confined areas, and lift up to 35 lbs.
- Collaborate with other mechanics (General, Avionics, Electrical) to support cost and schedule goals.
- Successfully complete a required skills assessment at end of training.
- Must be available to work variable shifts based on business need, including 1st and 2nd shift.
- Successful completion of training (OJT or formal classroom) is a contingency of this assignment.
- Overtime and weekend work as required.
- 1+ year of experience working with non-porous metals (aluminum, titanium, stainless steel).
- 1+ year of experience reading schematics, specifications, and assembly drawings.
- 1+ year using structural hand tools (45°/90° drills, countersink cages, hole finders, rivet guns, etc.).
- Ability to work variable shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement of this position.
- Experience in C-17 depot-level heavy maintenance.
- Experience working with titanium aircraft structures.
- Ability to operate forklifts, mobile cranes, and electric powered elevating work platforms.
- Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift ~35 lbs.
- Exposure to elevated platforms and high-noise environments.
- Use of protective gear for eyes, face, hands, and arms.
- Ability to pass visual acuity and color-perception testing.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials according to regulations.
- Maintain required training and certifications.
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching overhead, balancing, and working on uneven surfaces.
- Occasional climbing, crawling, squatting, bending, and use of foot controls.
- Occasional 2-person lifting required for items over 50 lbs.
- Frequent exposure to noise and occasional contact with metals.
- High school diploma or GED required.
