Duties
Help
  • Provides expert legal advice and assistance on DoWEA labor and civilian personnel matters, including: employee relations, equal opportunity and civil rights.
  • Represents DoWEA in hearings and other administrative proceedings before the EEOC, MSPB, and FLRA and represents DoWEA management in grievance proceedings.
  • Incumbent serves as a management representative or agency advisor at collective bargaining sessions with union officials.
  • In judicial litigation matters, the incumbent ensures all necessary preparations are accurate and complete
  • Works closely with the Office of the General Counsel, DoW, and offices of other senior DoW officials, DoJ attorneys, and the Office of Personnel Management.
  • Conduct research of laws, legal opinions, precedent cases, and relevant Agency guidance and actions, as needed, to address complex and difficult legal issues

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience: You must have three or more years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as an LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience.

Bar Membership: You must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a State, Territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

The DoWEA Office of General Counsel is accepting applications for the position of Associate General Counsel - General Law Division-HQ, DoWEA. The incumbent assists the General Counsel, DoWEA in providing a full range of legal services in labor and employment law, to the Director, DoWEA, other members of the DoWEA leadership team worldwide. This is in support of DoWEA's mission to operate accredited schools and ensure all school-aged children of military families are provided a world-class education.
