We are seeking an experienced Configuration Manager to support configuration management and change control activities across enterprise technology initiatives within large Federal environments. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate control over system baselines, configuration items, documentation, and environment alignment throughout system development, modernization, and sustainment efforts. The Configuration Manager collaborates closely with development, security, infrastructure, release management, and Government stakeholders to ensure configuration accuracy, traceability, and compliance with established governance practices. This position contributes to predictable, well-controlled deployments and effective lifecycle management of enterprise systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and maintain configuration items (CIs), system baselines, version histories, and controlled repositories across multiple environments.
• Maintain configuration documentation including system inventories, configuration attributes, environment diagrams, and dependency relationships.
• Coordinate change management processes, including evaluation of proposed changes, impact analysis, and participation in approval workflows.
• Ensure alignment and consistency of configuration settings, deployment artifacts, and infrastructure components across development, test, staging, and production environments.
• Conduct configuration audits, reconciliations, and compliance reviews to validate baseline integrity and documentation accuracy.
• Develop and maintain configuration management procedures, plans, and control records in accordance with organizational standards.
• Support release management activities by verifying configuration readiness and ensuring proper version control across environments.
• Identify configuration risks, inconsistencies, or unauthorized changes and collaborate with stakeholders to implement mitigation strategies.
• Maintain authoritative configuration libraries and repositories, ensuring appropriate access controls and security practices.
• Track configuration changes and maintain traceability between requirements, system components, releases, and operational environments.
• Participate in technical planning sessions and coordination meetings to ensure configuration considerations are integrated into delivery activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of configuration governance processes, tooling, and documentation practices.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• 5+ years of experience in configuration management, systems management, or environment governance within enterprise IT environments.
• Strong understanding of configuration baselines, version control practices, environment alignment, and system inventory management.
• Experience supporting formal change control processes, configuration audits, and reconciliation activities.
• Ability to analyze configuration dependencies, maintain end-to-end traceability, and assess configuration risks.
• Familiarity with configuration repositories, source control systems, or deployment artifact management tools.
• Experience collaborating with development, DevSecOps, security, infrastructure, and release management teams.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills suitable for technical and operational stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
• Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs, is a plus.
• Familiarity with automated configuration validation tools or integration with CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of environment management, release coordination, and deployment governance practices.
• Experience supporting compliance-driven or regulated IT environments.
• Relevant certifications in configuration management, IT service management, or DevOps disciplines are preferred but not required.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
