Overview
We are seeking a Technical Lead - Cloud Data Engineering to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale data solutions on Client Azure. This is a remote role with occasional travel to the Washington D.C. metro area. The position focuses on building modern cloud data platforms, leading data engineering teams, and migrating legacy data warehouse systems to Azure-based solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of data engineers to design and implement Azure-based data solutions
- Work with business users to gather requirements and translate them into data engineering solutions
- Build and manage ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, APIs, and data extracts
- Drive migration from legacy EDW systems to Azure Cloud Data Lake platforms
- Optimize ETL performance, validate SLAs, and ensure scalable data processing
- Collaborate with DevOps, architects, and infrastructure teams for pipeline optimization
- Design and implement data models (relational, dimensional, Lakehouse architecture)
- Use Azure services like Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory, Spark, and SQL for development
- Prepare data for analytics, reporting, and AI/ML use cases
- Ensure data quality, governance, security, and performance
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain high availability of data systems
- Support Agile/DevOps processes and continuous delivery
- Maintain version control, documentation, and best practices
Must Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 9+ years of overall experience in data engineering / data warehousing
- 5+ years of experience leading data engineering or EDW teams
- Strong experience with Client data stack: SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and performance testing (JMeter, Azure Monitor, Spark UI, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Azure services: Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory
- Strong programming/scripting skills (SQL, T-SQL, Python, PySpark, PowerShell)
- Experience working with clients to gather requirements and deliver solutions
- Experience with Agile methodology and cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and system lifecycle processes
- Ability to support multiple environments (production, testing, development)
- Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Client Azure certifications (Data Engineering, AI, or Analytics)
- Experience with federal/government projects or Public Trust clearance
- Domain experience in law, HR, finance, inventory, or property management data
- Exposure to AI/ML or Azure OpenAI integration
- Strong adaptability and continuous learning mindset
