Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 3) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Lab Test organization. This position is located in Melbourne, FL.
In this role you will be responsible for mechanical designs associated with flight test mechanical equipment, and integration onto test vehicles. These design activities will be associated with any of the following - cable interface assemblies, data acquisition hardware, and a variety of sensors design to measure stress, thermal, vibration, and linear / rotational displacement.

Preferred Qualifications:
Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate the mechanical design life cycle from concept to system integration for flight test instrumentation hardware.
- Facilitate cross IPT / discipline collaboration in the development of flight test instrumentation designs.
- Procurement of hardware in support of mechanical designs.
- Serve as the point of contact with vendors, manufacturers, and technician teams in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of flight test instrumentation equipment.
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at an Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 3) level based on the qualifications below.
Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 2)
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 2 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional/military experience.
- Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business need, prior to the commencement of employment.
- Must have experience designs using tools. (e.g. CATIA V5, NX, Visualization Pro, TeamCenter, MES, or similar CAD programs)
Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 3)
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
- Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business need, prior to the commencement of employment.
- Must have experience designs using tools. (e.g. CATIA V5, NX, Visualization Pro, TeamCenter, MES, or similar CAD programs)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with the MRB process
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience with the manufacture and repair of composite structures
- Experience with the conceptual operation, and troubleshooting of, typical aircraft subsystems
- Experience in a developmental/operational test maintenance environment
- Experience working in an aircraft manufacturing facility
- Experience interfacing with a military customer
