THE WORK
Lockheed Martin is seeking a talented Project Engineer with a Secret clearance to work from our Huntsville, AL location.
This is an MID-SR CAREER (level 4) ROLE where candidates typically require 5+ years of professional experience.
As a Project Engineer, supporting THAAD Post Production, you will be responsible for planning, development, implementation, and management of effective and affordable weapons, materiel, or information systems product support strategies.
In addition, you will:
• Lead the creation, maintenance, and dissemination of troubleshooting procedures and support documentation.
• Operate primarily as a solo field representative, traveling domestically and internationally to diagnose, resolve, and record hardware, software, and firmware issues for THAAD units deployed across theater.
• Blend hands on engineering problem solving with expert technical writing to ensure that maintenance crews and logistics partners have clear, actionable guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop & Author Troubleshooting Content:
• Write, edit, and maintain step by step repair, diagnostic, and configuration procedures for THAAD hardware, software, and firmware.
• Produce quick reference guides, fault tree analyses, and "cheat sheet" job aids that meet DoD documentation standards.
• Field Execution & Validation:
• Travel alone to forward deployed THAAD sites, conduct on site diagnostics, and verify that written procedures produce repeatable, successful outcomes.
• Capture field data, photographs, and lessons learned; feed this information back into the documentation cycle.
• Lead System Upgrade Projects:
• Coordinate, plan, and execute hardware, software, and firmware upgrades/modifications as the Field Operations Team Lead for the THAAD Logistics Operations Center (TLOC).
• Liaise with OEM engineers, contractor technicians, and military logisticians to ensure upgrade timelines, safety compliance, and configuration control.
• Team & Stakeholder Collaboration:
• Mentor a small crew of Field Service Technicians and Contractor Logistics Support Technicians on best practice troubleshooting and documentation techniques.
• Reporting & Continuous Improvement:
• Identify recurring failure modes; propose design or process changes that reduce downtime and life cycle cost.
• Support THAAD Fielding and Maintenance operations as required.
An active Security+ certification is required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).

Basic Qualifications:
• Security+ certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
• Proven experience in Army or DoD logistics (or commercial equivalent) supporting complex weapon systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and preferred familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., SharePoint, DocuShare).
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative IPT.
• Self motivated, detail oriented, and capable of making decisions in austere environments.
• Active U.S. Department of Defense Secret (or higher) security clearance.
• Travel required (20-40 % of time) to domestic and overseas THAAD sites, including forward operating bases and contractor facilities.
Desired Skills:
• Direct experience coordinating, planning, and executing THAAD hardware, software, and firmware upgrades as the Field Operations lead for the THAAD Logistics Operations Center (TLOC).
• Background as a Field Service Technician or Contractor Logistics Support Technician supporting missile defense or comparable high value systems.
• Prior leadership of technical field teams (e.g., supervising Field Service Technicians).
• Hands on maintenance management in a military environment (U.S. Army, foreign armed forces, or similar).
• Strong grasp of Integrated Product Team (IPT) dynamics and logistics support processes (e.g., LCC, RCM, FMECA).
• 9 + years of progressive professional experience in weapon system support, troubleshooting, or technical writing or 7 + years with a related Master's degree.
• Recognized as an emerging authority on THAAD system maintenance and documentation.
• Must hold a valid U.S. passport with no travel restrictions and be able to obtain necessary visas and entry permits.
