Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
Project management:
Managing an emergency services program for an organization which includes but not limited to such divisions as Fire Protection, Law Enforcement, and/or Physical Security.
Planning and Evaluating:
Evaluating law enforcement operations.
Decision Making:
Advising senior management and/or officials on emergency services program.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Oversee programs involving Fire Protection and Prevention.
- Represent the garrison for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention law enforcement matters to the surrounding civilian communities to include the local, county and state police and fire departments; as well as civic interest groups.
- Perform a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, and directing law enforcement operations with full authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action.
- Duties and functions include police services, vehicle and weapons registration, military police investigations, ect.
- Develop performance plans, evaluates work performance and counsels staff as appropriate.
- Manage the current year budget and forecast resources for fire, law enforcement and security in the out-years.

- This position requires a one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties unless previously completed.
- This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance of access for the duration of employment which includes a background investigation and credit check.
- This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 10% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing based on the requirement to possess a Top Secret security clearance.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential." Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status. You must be exempt from military recall status.

- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
- Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
- Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
