Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Applying safety and occupational health regulations, standards, and principles in order to administer a safety and health program; 2) Using mishap investigation techniques to investigate mishaps, determine causal factors, and provide recommendations; 3) Using safety management system concepts to continuously improve safety performance; and 4) Utilizing management and business acumen tools and techniques sufficient enough to identify, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate an organization's safety and occupational health program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary with periodic inspections and surveys.
Work Environment: The work is primarily performed in an office setting, however the safety and occupational health specialist may be exposed to operating industrial machinery and equipment, toxic chemicals, fumes and material handling activities during periodic inspections and development and evaluation of hazard controls.
- You will analyze mishap data (e.g., types of mishaps, equipment involved, frequency, severity) to determine trends.
- You will review new or proposed safety guidelines, standard, or instructions for technical feasibility and accuracy.
- You will provide technical expertise in safety and occupational health programs and advise command personnel in the application of policies and procedures, control methods and industry best practices.
- You will consult, coordinate and maintain liaison with other safety and occupational health personnel.

- The incumbent must be able to successfully complete training courses as delineated in OPNAVINST 5100.23 series and the NAVFAC Safety Community Management Plan.
