Duties
DUTY 1:
Works with functional experts across DoD, Air Force, AFMC, AFSC, AFLCMC, private industry, and other entities to integrate separate functions to plan or implement specified logistics management programs, operations and logistics plans impacting AFSC depot maintenance and supply chain management strategic goals and objectives.
DUTY 2:
Career broadening assignments include providing technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance on a wide range of management issues.
DUTY 3:
Interprets Air Force acquisition and logistic directives.
DUTY 4:
Serves as a senior command representative and spokesperson in communicating program matters.
DUTY 5:
Development of Self and Organization: Maintains current knowledge of events, technology, and organizational policies and procedures which impact current responsibilities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule, Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization and must have included: 1) Broad knowledge of the theories and principles of logistics management through all project phases; 2) Thorough knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the DoW, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence the logistics management program processes; 3) Comprehensive knowledge of the policies, practices, regulations, and laws concerning acquisition and logistics management processes and initiatives sufficient to prepare long-range plans, analyze, and coordinate a system or portion of a major system's acquisition and transfer into operational use; 4) Expert knowledge of the application of a wide range of qualitative and quantitative assessment methods sufficient to improve logistics planning processes and enhance the quality and effectiveness of complex logistics programs; 5) Knowledge of military command structures, missions and programs for organizations involved in logistics planning; 6) Comprehensive knowledge of the Logistics support needs of assigned programs, systems, equipment and components; 7) Expert knowledge of the administrative processes and documentation requirements of logistics planning; 8) Knowledge of regulations and practices pertaining to programming and budgeting for Logistics functions; 9) Knowledge of DoW weapons systems management and sustainment program goals, sequences of key weapons systems management and sustainment events and milestones, and methods of evaluating weapons systems management and sustainment; and 10) Ability to apply knowledge to design and conduct comprehensive studies of logistics management information systems analysis issues for which boundaries are extremely broad and difficult to determine in advance.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:Knowledge of a wide range of federal and agency logistics concepts, principles, practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to a full range of deployment, distribution and logistics management to include cargo and passenger movement, supply chain management, equipment maintenance, warehousing, planning and operations, under peacetime and wartime conditions to develop and recommend policies and procedures. Knowledge of a wide range of strategic distribution, logistics and supply chain concepts in warehousing, transportation, fleet management, supply, and logistics planning to provide technical guidance to the development of program goals, plans, policies, and procedures and work plans dealing with the development of strategic visions, to evaluate overall process effectiveness, and to recommend methods to help optimize use of resources and maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Knowledge and skill in applying JDDE analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issue or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations and recommend improvements. Ability to assimilate, analyze, and evaluate data to formulate command policies. Skill and ability to articulate and defend command requirements, and present reports in final format. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, including senior officials in OSD, the Joint Staff, DLA, GSA, TCCs, and other government and federal agencies. Ability to plan, lead and organize projects. Ability to develop logistics information systems capabilities and anticipate/identify logistics issues associated with logistics planning and transportation requirements.

- These assignments offer the qualified candidate a unique assignment in that the candidates brings certain experience to the assignment while gaining new experiences in a different work environment
- TEMPORARY PROMOTION: If the position is filled as a temporary promotion, upon completion of the career broadening assignment, the temporary promotion may lead to permanent promotion without further competition
