We are seeking an experienced Senior Pipefitter / Pipe Welder to support U.S. Navy ship modernization and repair availabilities. This position performs advanced pipefitting, welding, and installation work in support of shipboard piping systems, equipment upgrades, and modernization projects aboard U.S. Navy surface vessels.
This role is ideal for experienced waterfront trades professionals who have previously supported naval shipyard, repair, or modernization environments and are capable of executing complex piping installation tasks in demanding shipboard environments.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Pipefitter / Pipe Welder to support U.S. Navy ship modernization and repair availabilities. This position performs advanced pipefitting, welding, and installation work in support of shipboard piping systems, equipment upgrades, and modernization projects aboard U.S. Navy surface vessels.
This role is ideal for experienced waterfront trades professionals who have previously supported naval shipyard, repair, or modernization environments and are capable of executing complex piping installation tasks in demanding shipboard environments.
In this role you will:
- Interpret specifications, drawings, blueprints, shop job orders and process sheets.
- Use a variety of ARC and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as foundations, cable collars, cable/pipe/vent hangers, cable tubes penetrations, studs, etc.
- Perform related task such as thermal cutting (PLASMA or TORCH) and grinding.
- Have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- Assign work to qualified personnel.
- Train new shop personnel on machinery, tools and test equipment required for quality construction of products.
- Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death.
- Perform shipboard pipefitting and welding operations in support of naval modernization and repair activities.
- Fabricate, modify, and install piping systems aboard U.S. Navy vessels.
- Perform pipe layout, fit-up, cutting, bending, and installation of pipe assemblies.
- Install and service piping systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, seawater, chilled water, and auxiliary systems.
- Perform pipe joining operations including GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), brazing, socket welds, butt welds, and mechanical joining systems.
- Install MAF fittings including LOKRING systems in accordance with manufacturer and NAVSEA installation standards.
- Interpret piping diagrams, ship installation drawings, and technical work packages.
- Coordinate with AIT leadership, platform leads, and installation teams to execute modernization tasks efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with NAVSEA standards, shipyard safety requirements, and hot work procedures.
To be successful In this role you will have:
- The ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Clearance.
- US Citizenship.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 8 years of shipboard welding experience or relevant/similar experience.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
- Your own tools of the trade and able to pass pre-certification company weld test.
- The ability to successfully complete the following Serco Welding Procedures: Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum - 4 position), Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100-4 position), Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum - 4 position), Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S - 4 position), and Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S - 4 position).
- The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
- Attention to safety (which is critical).
- Ability to obtain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
- Ability to travel to our other work location in Newport News, VA.
- Ability to travel up to 10% to various work sites.8+ years of pipefitting and welding experience.
- Demonstrated experience supporting shipboard or shipyard environments.
- Proficiency in pipe welding techniques including TIG (GTAW) and Stick (SMAW).
- Experience with brazing and small bore piping installation.
- Experience installing MAF / LOKRING pipe fittings.
- Ability to read and interpret piping drawings and installation diagrams.
- Experience working in confined shipboard spaces and waterfront environments.
Additional desired skills and experience:
- Experience supporting U.S. Navy ship modernization or repair availabilities.
- Welding certifications relevant to NAVSEA or shipyard welding standards.
- Experience working on surface combatants (DDG, CG, LHD, etc.).
- Familiarity with technical work packages (TWPs) and ship checks.
- Active security clearance.
