Duties
Help
  • Monitor status of police, fire, and medical field units to ensure prompt and accurate response.
  • Verify completed work assignments by shift personnel comply with policies and regulations.
  • Perform crisis intervention in high-risk situations until emergency units arrive.
  • Maintain records, reports, and logs to support emergency services and ensure compliance, reporting, and data accuracy.
  • Prepare shift schedules and distribute workload among employees in accordance with established workflow.

  • Obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

  • Must obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment, Emergency Medical Dispatch, National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System Operator, Arizona Criminal Justice Information System, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certifications.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in operating emergency dispatch communications systems for an organization; questioning callers to identify nature of emergencies and respond with appropriate emergency response personnel/ equipment; providing Emergency Medical Dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies and applying established emergency response procedures according to regulations and local operating procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Communications, Homeland Security, or Fire Protection.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

In addition to the requirement above, this position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
