Afloat NAMTS Coordinator

Purpose:
  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for an Inside Machinist / Rigging and Weight Handling/Corrosion Control Afloat NAMTS Coordinator serving as a key support to the NAMTS Afloat program. The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert with experience in Inside Machinist or Rigging and Weight Handling/Corrosion Control.

Job Description:
  • Implement the NAMTS program onboard approved vessels within their assigned fleet and NAMTS organization as required.
  • Provide NAMTS program administration, execution, and technical support for the Afloat NAMTS programs under their purview.
  • Provide oversight for the execution of conducting United States Apprenticeship Program (USMAP) and JQR indoctrination, including an overview of all components and benefits of the NAMTS program for afloat leadership and NAMTS candidates.
  • Assist Department Heads, Division Officers and senior enlisted leadership of afloat vessels in assessing NAMTS candidates.
  • Monitor performance of Afloat NAMTS candidates to ensure:
    • Completion of NAMTS Core Fundamentals within four (4) months of enrollment
  • Attempt completion of a NAMTS Skill Area JQR within 18 months of enrollment.
  • Candidates attempt the NAMTS exam within 30 days of completing a Skill Area JQR
  • Candidates attempt the oral board within 30 days of passing the exam.
  • Submit formal external training requests as needed.
  • Identify Afloat NAMTS training issues and initiate program improvement.
  • Assist in the collection of data to support Afloat NAMTS metrics and reporting.
  • Assist in preparing Afloat NAMTS program reviews and audits.
  • Oversee the coordination and participation of all JQR qualification oral boards as needed to monitor program.
  • Review completed JQRs to ensure all line items are signed by an approved JQR qualifier.
  • Provide initial review for accuracy and comments of proposed JQRs, JQR revisions, JQR Exam, oral board questions, acceptable answers and distractors.
  • Review and ensure all NAMTS QPR and CeTARS data entries are accurate and current.
  • Review each NATA QPR to ensure all JQR process accomplishments are tracked and recorded.
  • Must have experience briefing senior leadership (O-6/GS15) with oral and written presentations, correspondence, documents, and reports.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of all inside machnist systems or rigging and weight handling/corossion control systems installed on naval vessels.
  • Safety Standards: Familiarity with safety standards and protocols related to electrical systems, ensuring compliance with regulations and minimizing the risk of accidents or malfunctions.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems quickly and effectively, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause and correct the problem and coordinating with teams to implement necessary repairs and modifications.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Ability to inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Training and Mentorship: Providing training and mentorship to junior personnel, sharing knowledge and best practices to develop the next generation of electricians.
  • Emerging Technologies: Staying updated on advancements in electrical technology relevant to naval applications, advising on the integration of new systems and equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Keeping abreast of regulatory changes and requirements related to electrical systems, ensuring adherence to relevant standards and directives.
  • Follow all requirements outlined in Formal Work Packages (FWPs) and Controlled Work Packages (CWPs).
  • Provide mentorship to junior personnel and support the professional development of future electricians, hull technicians, and machinists.

Qualifications:
  • Must have an Associate's Degree or at least 13 years' experience in operating, maintaining, repairing and training inside machinist systems / rigging and weight handling / corrosion control installed on naval vessels, utilizing a variety of test equipment and hand tools.
  • Must have attained the rank of E-7 in the US NAVY with a background in the process of machinery repair or rigging and weight handling/corrosion control.
  • Must have one or more of the following NAMTS/NEC/USMAP-related qualifications (Machinist / Rigging and Weight Handling / Corrosion Control pathways):
    • NAMTS NECs U33A, U33B,797A, 860A
    • RAPIDS 0159D NET/SOC: 51-4041.00, 53-7041.00, 51-9124.00
  • Must have 10 years of experience in the repair of mechanical instruments and making repairs, maintaining industrial machines, rigging and weight handling / corrosion control.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and work to the requirements of applicable ship drawings, blueprints, equipment technical manuals, and other applicable approved technical references.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision and make independent judgments and decisions within the framework of oral and written guidance and accepted trade practices, processes and procedures while accomplishing assignments.

Desired Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of experience as a team member for afloat assessments such as INSURV or ATG.
  • At least 10 years of experience with O-Level or I-Level maintenance being responsible for scheduling, training, and QC and QA of Sailors that perform maintenance and repair on engineering, deck, or combat systems equipment.
  • NEC/NAMTS/Master Level certification.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Security Requirements:
  • Must have an Active DoD Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain it.
  • Must have and maintain a valid passport.

Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional Travel- Up to 25%
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
  • Repetitive motion, climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and visual acuity (depth perception)
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Subject to all physical conditions related to performing shipboard maintenance.
