Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Chief Engineer (CE) to lead the development and maturation of advanced digital processing solutions for space. As a technical authority across multiple development programs and IRAD efforts, you will guide teams through subsystem architecture, design execution, testing, and fielded solutions. The role demands deep expertise in digital hardware design and a broad understanding of related disciplines-including component engineering, FPGA/ASIC design, mechanical packaging, thermal/structural analysis, software development, and debugging.
As a critical technical leader, you will promote and enforce design engineering standards, best practices, and processes that span Class A/B/C/D and demonstration missions.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Edge Processing directorate on proposals, system architecture, electronics design, testing, and product line development providing key direction on the use of advanced technologies, technical execution, and risk management.
• Maintain awareness of the current technical state and challenges for programs within the EP directorate; communicate major issues to EP/E&T technical leadership, especially those that could affect other current or future programs.
• Support program teams by using your judgment to engage leadership and designers on advanced technical issues.
• When assigned, serve as program Chief Engineer, responsible for acting as the program's technical authority, ensuring 100 % mission success, and representing the program to customers, systems integrators, other Lockheed Martin segments, and senior leadership.
• Provide technical assessments, guidance, recommendations, and next steps even when information is limited.
• Promote and improve digital electronics design standards, best practices, and processes.
• Mentor, guide, and train engineers on both technical and leadership matters.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific field.
• 12+ years of experience working in relevant aerospace development fields
• Proven experience integrating subsystems and components to meet system requirements.
• Experience with integration & test planning, execution, and troubleshooting for digital systems.
• Experience defining subsystem level digital systems architectures
• Experience with electronics hardware design and development milestones.
• Familiarity with digital technologies for space applications (processors, co processors, memories, FPGAs, ADC/DAC, high speed serial interfaces)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance therefore, US citizenship is required.
Desired Skills:
• Prior experience as a Chief Engineer, Systems Engineering lead, or certified RSE/CPE/ECPE.
• Extensive knowledge of engineering processes and command media background for design development, team execution, and risk reduction
• Hands on experience with aerospace software, electrical/mechanical design, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
• Strong aptitude for drafting top level system requirements with minimal guidance.
• Familiarity with digital, optical and RF interfaces
• Familiarity with FPGA and/or ASIC development and applications
• Experience leading a team of 2-10 engineers with diverse technical specialties.
• Full program lifecycle exposure-from initial development through post launch support.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively to meet program goals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal abilities to build consensus among peers, leadership, subordinates, and customers.
• Active TS or TS/SCI

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $164,300 - $289,800. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
