The Advance Weapons Operating Unit within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. We are looking for an experienced Test and Weapons specialist to support the Launch Vehicles business unit in the Launch and Exploration Division. The selected individual will be a valued member of the Program team, working with the program office to accomplish eventual operational weapons deployment. This position is located in Chandler, AZ and is 100% on-site.

Activities may include weapons test planning and execution in various settings. The candidate will have the ability to work with the various US Air Force offices such as USAF SEEK Eagle office, Non-Nuclear Munition Safety Board and Aircraft Platform Program Offices as well as prime aircraft platform contractors. There should also be a good understanding of documents including MIL-HNBK-516 related to airworthiness of weapons mounted on combat aircraft and related MIL-STDs. Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
  • Oversee test projects and support the program management office in planning, proposals, and general deliverables for internal and external customers
  • Interface with groups outside the program for critical test or airworthiness projects in support of program execution
  • Review status of test or airworthiness weapons projects
  • Assess project issues and negotiate/develop resolutions to meet test or airworthiness goals and objectives
  • Develop mechanisms for monitoring and communicating project progress and for intervention and problem solving with the program management office
  • Collaborate with program leaders to develop and maintain effective business rhythm
  • Identify and execute process improvements


To be successful in this role, the candidate must be a self-starter, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be highly collaborative, organized, team oriented, and be able to effectively multi-task competing priorities and schedules across the organization

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 15 years of relevant experience; OR 12 years' experience with a Master's degree. An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Familiarity with weapons airworthiness documentation
  • Able to excel in a fast paced, dynamic environment and adapt to change
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to function independently, meet deadlines, and drive tasks to completion
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with competing demands
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Experience with MS Office Suite
  • Active Secret Clearance required at the time of application
  • US Citizenship required


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience with a USAF Program office for Airworthiness and Weapons interface
  • Experience working in technology or development organizations


Primary Level Salary Range: $152,000.00 - $229,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
