Overview of Role:
The Financial Project Controller is responsible for overseeing, analyzing, and reporting the financial performance of government contracts, programs, and projects. This position serves as a critical link between project teams, program managers, and corporate finance to ensure billing accuracy, cost compliance, financial forecasting, and timely reporting. The Financial Project Controller will enforce adherence to internal policies as well as Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and other relevant requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Financial Project Controller is responsible for developing and managing project budgets, ensuring close alignment between financial planning and contractual requirements. These individual conducts thorough financial analysis and reporting, delivering accurate and timely insights on project performance and variances. The role includes proactive monitoring of project costs to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and contract terms, as well as detailed forecasting and financial planning to support both ongoing projects and long-term objectives.
Additionally, the Financial Project Controller prepares, submits, and reconciles project billing and revenue, guaranteeing accuracy and adherence to timelines. The position also supports internal and external audits by maintaining detailed documentation and robust compliance practices. By fostering clear and effective communication with stakeholders, including project managers, corporate finance, clients, and auditors, the Financial Project Controller promotes transparency and drives financial process improvements across the organization.
Educational and Certification Requirement:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in government contracting or project finance.
• Strong understanding of FAR, CAS, and other government contracting regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial analysis, and forecasting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of ERP/financial systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet).
• Exceptional attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
