Responsibilities
The Generator Technician is responsible for maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing generator systems and other mission-critical power infrastructure. This includes DRUPS (Diesel Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, emergency backup generators, fuel storage tanks, fuel distribution systems, and associated equipment. Technicians perform preventive and corrective maintenance, load testing, inspections, and emergency service calls to ensure continuous, reliable, and high-quality power delivery to support high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities.
This role requires strong technical expertise in internal combustion (IC) engines, diesel power systems, generator control systems, and electrical/mechanical diagnostics.

Responsibilities

This role requires strong technical expertise in internal combustion (IC) engines, diesel power systems, generator control systems, and electrical/mechanical diagnostics.
- Troubleshoot, install, repair, and service a wide range of commercial and industrial power systems, including:
- DRUPS generators
- Emergency backup generators
- Large fuel storage tanks
- Fuel polishing systems
- Fuel distribution piping
- Fuel pumps and control systems
- Perform inspections, testing, and modifications to diesel engines, generators, and related power-generation equipment.
- Conduct load testing to identify deficiencies and prevent issues such as wet stacking.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), annunciator panels, and generator control circuits.
- Rebuild/repair components including turbochargers, head gaskets, seals, catalytic converters, water pumps, belts, hoses, and torque heads.
- Conduct automatic and manual transfer tests simulating power outages.
- Test oil, coolant, batteries, and fuel; prepare and ship samples for lab analysis.
- Handle, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with regulatory standards.
Reliability & Maintenance Methodologies
- Apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) to perform preventive services, system modifications, and repairs to ensure full operational capability.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment even when documentation or technical manuals are incomplete or unavailable.
Qualifications
- Applicants selected must have minimum 7+ years of experience with a HS Diploma/GED
- Minimum 7+ years' experience supporting large buildings, industrial facilities, or critical infrastructure (overseas experience preferred).
- At least 7+ years of hands-on experience with complex diesel power systems, including DRUPS units.
- ASME-certified Diesel Mechanic (required).
- Proven experience maintaining and troubleshooting large-scale fuel systems including storage tanks, polishing systems, distribution piping, and pumping systems.
- Ability to multi-task and function in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge Requirements
- Electrical, mechanical, thermal, and hydraulic system fundamentals.
- IC diesel/gaseous engine operation and troubleshooting.
- Engine control systems, PLC logic, generator control circuits.
- Mechanical and electrical safety protocols, PPE requirements.
- NFPA fire codes and lockout/tagout procedures.
- State, local, and national environmental regulations (EPA, CARB, SMAQMD).
- Hazardous material tracking, handling, and disposal.
- Rigging and heavy-object handling standards.
- Basic computer literacy.
Required Skills
- Interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Diagnose and repair engine control system issues.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults using DVOMs, megohmmeters, oscilloscopes, power quality meters, and loop calibrators.
- Correct wet stacking conditions and assess performance deficiencies.
- Perform rigging operations safely and effectively.
- Maintain accurate digital and handwritten service documentation.

- The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials.
