The MITRE National Security Sector (MNS) and its National Security Engineering Center (NSEC) FFRDC are dedicated to solving the nation's most complex security challenges-spanning the Department of War (DoW), Intelligence Community, interagency partners, industry, and international allies. As a trusted systems engineering and integration partner, NSEC bridges organizational boundaries to enable cross-cutting solutions, proactively assessing capability gaps and focusing on mission outcomes rather than isolated systems or processes.
The Naval Integration and Operations Department (N232) is seeking a Cryptographic Cybersecurity Engineer to influence strategic direction as well as identify and shape new opportunities for the larger Navy Cryptographic Modernization initiative. This department integrates game changing, asymmetric, and strategic capabilities into Naval operations in order to ensure maritime superiority and All-Domain Fleet lethality in a dynamic, complex, and contested maritime environment. This role will primarily be tied to our project working with PMW 130, Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I's) Cybersecurity Program Office.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Navy sponsor, NSA, research labs, trusted vendor community, and members of the Navy/DoW operational community to lead the development and execution of next generation air/ground/space cryptographic solutions.
- In-depth technical understanding of symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic algorithms and the government agency Evaluation/Certification Processes.
- Support the development/deployment of cryptographic capabilities in a more agile manner to meet the speed of the evolving threat.
- Apply strong interpersonal skills to work across organizational interests to execute engineering efforts and produce secure systems.
- In-depth understanding of Post-Quantum Cryptographic algorithms, emerging Quantum Computing threats to cryptography.
- Strong ability to lead a team with diverse skill sets and strengthen complex cryptographic cyber security engineering across the corporation.
- Applies extensive in-depth conceptual, practical, and technical knowledge within the cryptographic domain.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information assurance, or related fields; or 6 years and a Masters' degree; or a PhD with 3years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across diverse geographic locations and organizational levels.
- Experience in government stakeholder engagement and communication, including briefing senior leadership and coordinating across diverse teams.
- Relevant technical knowledge of NIST, NIAP, and NSA identified cryptographic, processes, risks and potential solutions.
- Extensive experience with high- and medium-assurance cryptographic solutions.
- Applied knowledge of Systems Engineering and System Security Engineering.
- Extensive experience in encryption processes, algorithms, and standards.
- Extensive experience in cryptographic device certification standards and processes.
- Awareness of DoW acquisition processes and information assurance requirements.
- Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills.
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
- Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the DoW acquisition process and Information Assurance requirements.
- Possess strong analytical and modeling skills, including Digital Engineering.
- Proven understanding of terrestrial, airborne, surface/subsurface, and satellite communication systems and their effects on cryptographic algorithm and mode selection.
