Job Summary
Systems & Software Engineer will support the design, development, testing, implementation, and administration of new and existing software systems for critical Air Force (AF) and joint service weapon systems. The ideal candidate will apply a robust understanding of systems engineering, software assurance, and airworthiness certification to ensure the performance, sustainability, and safety of advanced aeronautical and ground systems. This role involves full life-cycle support, from requirements analysis and acquisition to deployment and sustainment.

Systems & Software Engineer will support the design, development, testing, implementation, and administration of new and existing software systems for critical Air Force (AF) and joint service weapon systems. The ideal candidate will apply a robust understanding of systems engineering, software assurance, and airworthiness certification to ensure the performance, sustainability, and safety of advanced aeronautical and ground systems. This role involves full life-cycle support, from requirements analysis and acquisition to deployment and sustainment.
Key Responsibilities
Systems & Software Engineering
- Assist in the design, development, testing, evaluation, and maintenance of complex software systems.
- Analyze and recommend corrections for software and equipment deficiencies and support the integration of solutions.
- Translate user needs and operational requirements into detailed system, subsystem, and equipment requirements for design and development.
- Knowledge of software assurance practices and tools, including source code analyzers, binary analyzers, and architecture analysis tools.
- Familiarity with aeronautical vehicle systems, avionics, and/or related ground system operational flight programs.
- Ability to support a wide range of technical meetings, including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), and Program Management Reviews (PMR).
- Understanding of DoD and Air Force engineering principles, processes, and procedures related to weapon systems
- Knowledge of software and systems engineering principles and the full development lifecycle.
Airworthiness & System Safety
- Apply a deep understanding of MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria and AFPD 62-6 (USAF Airworthiness) to aircraft systems.
- Conduct system safety engineering programs, including mishap risk assessments, and assist in resolving high-priority safety issues.
- Support System Integrity Programs (e.g., MECSIP), maintain the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list, and monitor airworthiness certifications.
- Experience with establishing and managing OSS&E (Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness) baselines and processes
Acquisition & Program Support
- Assist in the creation of acquisition strategies, Request for Proposals (RFP), and key program documentation such as the System Engineering Plan (SEP), Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), and Software Development Plan (SDP).
- Perform material solution analyses, technological trade-off assessments, and technical evaluations to support design reviews and milestone decisions.
- Provide an advisory role during contractor source selections for engineering-related requirements.
- Experience with engineering cost estimation and evaluation of Integrated Master Plans/Schedules (IMP/IMS).
- Experience with systems acquisition, hardware/software integration, and requirements analysis.
Documentation & Analysis
- Develop, review, and update essential program documentation, including system specifications, interface control documents, and security classification guides.
- Prepare technical data, staff summary packages, and executive briefings for milestone approvals.
- Analyze and evaluate prime and subcontractor proposals, including ECPs, Contract Change Proposals (CCPs), and FAA bulletins.
Process Management
- Implement and adhere to Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) and OSS&E processes to ensure compliance.
- Manage configuration, data, and risk management plans and processes.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives such as value stream mapping

Required Experience

- Bachelor's degree in an ABET accredited engineering discipline and four (4) years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed
- U.S. Citizenship required; Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance required
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft O ffi ce Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams), & Adobe Acrobat
Preferred Experience:
- Digital Engineer/Digital Material Management experience with CAMEO, SysML, DOORS, etc.
