Position Title: Software/Systems Engineer I – RHEL Administrator
Status: Permanent/Full-Time
Location: Charleston, SC - On-site

Scope of Work: The role will support the Cloud Engineering, Transition, and Modernization Support Services (CETM) effort for Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) in support of the Marine Corps Application and Hosting Services (MCAHS) Integrated Product Team (IPT). The scope of work includes application analysis, security requirements analysis, documentation, virtualization, modernization, technical engineering, migration scheduling, business process reengineering, data preparation, migration planning, interface transition planning, training on Cloud Service Offerings (CSO) environment, service transition planning, cutover planning, back out planning, and go-live support. This support also requires associated transition and/or modernization support services to migrate legacy systems from their current hosting environments for the Marine Corps Business Operations Support System (MCBOSS).
The ideal candidate for this position will have 1-3 years experience with administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating System (OS). In this role, you will support the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and security of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across development, test, and production environments. Additionally, the RHEL Administrator must effectively employ the five C’s: communication, collaboration, core competencies, and character.

Responsibilities:
• Design, deploy, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments supporting application platforms
• Provide expertise to support deployment, operation, and maintenance of cloud platforms in support of mission owners
• Monitor, maintain, and support RHEL 7/8/9 servers in development and production environments
• Respond to system alerts, user-reported issues, and service disruptions in a timely manner
• Perform day-to-day user account management including creation, modification, and deactivation
• Configure and manage file systems, logical volumes (LVM), and storage mounts
• Write and maintain Bash shell scripts to automate routine administrative tasks
• Develop automation scripts for log parsing, system health checks, and reporting
• Assist in building and maintaining Ansible playbooks for configuration management
• Participate in the development of cron jobs and scheduled task frameworks
• Apply OS-level security patches using yum/dnf in accordance with patch schedules
• Coordinate patch windows, pre/post-patch validation, and system rollback procedures
• Maintain system package inventories and ensure software licensing compliance
• Test patches in lower environments prior to production deployment
• Assist in planning and executing in-place RHEL version upgrades and migrations
• Support hardware refresh activities including OS reinstallation and configuration
• Validate system configurations and application compatibility post-upgrade
• Document upgrade procedures, lessons learned, and runbooks
• Apply DISA STIG baselines and CIS Benchmark configurations to RHEL systems
• Perform routine vulnerability scans using tools
• Implement and manage SELinux policies and firewall rules
• Participate in security audits and contribute to remediation efforts
• Enforce least-privilege access controls and review system audit logs
• Perform appropriate cybersecurity engineering activities on the platform(s) and infrastructure to include vulnerability scans, system hardening, and test-fix-test activities

Requirements/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or mathematics
• Ability to obtain Agile Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification.
• Ability to obtain Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
• Ability to obtain CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification
• 1-3 years experience with administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating System (OS)
