Position Title: Software/Systems Engineer I - Cloud Engineer
Status: Permanent
Location: North Charleston, S.C. – Hybrid

The Navy Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Case Execution Modernization Initiative (CEMI) will provide the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Foreign Nationals the enterprise case management system replacement for MISIL. The CEMI will serve as the case execution capability to comprehensively and efficiently access, integrate, manage, track, evaluate, and transfer case execution, logistics, requisition, procurement, contracting, funding, financial, accounting, and services data across the FMS community activities. Modus21, LLC is developing the Sea Services Security Assistance Logistics and Execution (S3ALE) application as part of a systems-of-systems solution to replace the obsolete MISIL system.

Responsibilities:
• Design and Implementation: Architect, deploy, and manage AWS-based cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Utilize tools like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
• Cloud Services Management: Configure and optimize AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS, EKS, and VPC to meet application requirements.
• Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices, including IAM roles, security groups, and encryption, to ensure compliance with industry standards. Draft policies for architecture components and users to maintain least privilege standards.
• Automation: Write and maintain JSON/ YAML to create Lambda functions to run automated process as needed (SNS Notification, Data transformation, and S3 Logging)
• Monitoring and Optimization: Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting using AWS CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, or third-party tools to ensure system performance and cost efficiency. Identify and resolve issues while proactively optimizing logic and model performance by tuning code, streamlining, and resource allocation.
• CI/CD Integration: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, or other DevOps tools to support continuous integration and deployment.
• Systems Engineering: Regularly conduct peer code reviews to ensure code quality, provide expert documentation and operating guidance for users of all levels. Be a champion for high quality software using TDD and other quality control approaches.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to cloud infrastructure, networking, and application performance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to align cloud solutions with business objectives.
• Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of cloud architecture, configurations, and processes.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering or related fields from an accredited college/university
• Required AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or equivalent certifications preferred.
• Required Security+ or similar certification (CISSP, CASP CE)
• 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with at least 2 years focused on AWS.
• Proven experience with AWS core services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC).
• Hands-on experience with IaC tools like AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, YAML, JSON, SQL, and PowerShell.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of networking concepts (DNS, TCP/IP, VPN, etc.).
• Familiarity with Agile and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jira, GIT, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
• Strong problem-solving and design skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer service skills
• Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
• Ability to work in a self-guided manner and excellent organizational skills
• Must be a US citizen and hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) TOP SECRET Security Clearance
