Duties
Help

• Serve as Chief for the Laboratory Operation Division responsible for the overall planning, administration, and coordination of laboratory science operations and information systems improvements.
• Developing and maintaining the Enterprise Laboratory Information Management System (ELIMS).
• Direct work through subordinate supervisors and delegates authority to direct their work units and employees.
• Perform supervisory personnel management responsibilities, including the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) support, labor relations, and administrative of collective bargaining agreements.
• Establish short- and long-range (3-5 year) plans and schedules to implement organic and inorganic environmental and occupational health chemistry functions within a framework of the goals, objectives and deadlines set by higher management.

• This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Chemist GS-1320-14:

Degree:Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

One year of specialized experience which includes: conducting studies related to occupational or environmental health issues; reviewing employee training needs; and assisting with directing work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
