The role is ideal for a candidate who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with high technical complexity and national security significance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed structural analysis of components, assemblies, and full systems for a space-based interceptor program, including but not limited to:
- Static strength analysis.
- Dynamic analysis (vibration, shock, and acoustics).
- Thermal-structural coupling analysis.
- Material and failure analysis.
- Evaluate mechanical subsystem designs for compliance with space and launch environments to ensure survivability and long-term reliability in the operating environment.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary design reviews to guide and recommend advanced structural designs.
- Provide expertise in material selection (metals, composites, ceramics) that aligns with mission performance requirements (e.g., lightweight, high-strength, multi-environment endurance).
- Support the review of structural subsystem specifications and ensure alignment with military and space industry standards (e.g., DoD standards, AIAA).
- Validate structural designs through experimental testing such as static load testing, vibration testing, and thermal-vacuum testing.
- Collaborate with the survivability and missile systems teams to ensure designs meet government-mandated requirements for space-based threats, operational stresses, and launch dynamics.
- Document analysis results and recommendations, prepare technical briefings, and present findings to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Act as the go-to SME for addressing critical technical challenges, and influencing technological strategies.
Required Skills and Expertise:
- Comprehensive understanding of structural analysis principles, finite element modeling, and material science.
- Strong understanding of launch dynamics, space environments, and stressors unique to space-based systems.
- Track record of contributing to the design, testing, and optimization of systems developed for military- and/or government-level programs.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and guidelines, including AIAA, ASME, and DoD specifications.
- Knowledge of advanced materials, including lightweight composites and high-strength alloys.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex analyses to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
