Bowhead seeks Ft. Dix Switch Technician

Bowhead seeks an experienced Telecommunications Switch Technician to support Base Telecommunications System operations and maintenance at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. The Switch Technician will provide technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications switching systems supporting mission-critical voice services.

This position will primarily support switching operations at Ft. Dix while also assisting with switching system maintenance activities supporting McGuire telecommunications infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

• Operate and maintain the Nortel MSL-100 switching system supporting Ft. Dix telecommunications infrastructure.
• Support maintenance activities for the McGuire SL-100 switching system as required.
• Perform switching system administration, configuration, and operational maintenance activities.
• Support troubleshooting and restoration of telecommunications outages, trouble tickets, and service disruptions.
• Perform system backups, database administration, and system configuration management for switching systems.
• Support adds, moves, changes, and deletions of telephone circuits and services.
• Assist with system configuration updates, software maintenance, and operational changes to switching infrastructure.
• Maintain switching equipment and associated telecommunications infrastructure identified in contract documentation.
• Support telecommunications maintenance and repair activities in accordance with operations and maintenance and work order procedures.
• Document maintenance actions, system changes, and troubleshooting activities in accordance with contract documentation requirements.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training in telecommunications, networking, or information technology is preferred.
• Years of experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience supporting telecommunications switching systems or voice network infrastructure required.
• Required skills or certifications

• • Experience operating and maintaining Nortel MSL-100 or similar telecommunications switching systems.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications switching systems and associated voice infrastructure.
  • Ability to perform system configuration, troubleshooting, and operational maintenance of enterprise voice systems.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications operations and maintenance procedures supporting voice and unified communications systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve telecommunications service outages and switching system faults.
  • Ability to read and interpret telecommunications technical documentation, system diagrams, and infrastructure drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in mission-critical telecommunications environments.

• Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
