As a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist at the GS-1035-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive, integrated strategic communication plan across all American Forces Network (AFN) platforms globally, aligning with DoW and DWIA objectives.
  • Supervises a diverse team of military and civilian personnel, providing mentorship, guidance, performance management, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Directs enterprise web and social media operations, providing guidance to subordinate units worldwide and ensuring AFN's online presence is engaging, informative, and compliant.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of radio and TV content calendars, anticipates needs for multimedia public service announcements, and manages a repository of content for future use.
  • Manages liaison and coordination with OSD/PA and ATSD(PA), maintains relationships with broadcast partners, and directs marketing and promotion efforts.
  • Ensures public relations best practices (e.g., RPIE, SMART goals) are implemented across AFN Enterprise in the development of content on a global scale.

  • Must be willing and able to travel using commercial or military air, rail and vehicle and remain on temporary duty for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Developing and executing integrated, multi-platform (e.g., television, radio, web, social media) strategic communication plans for a large, geographically dispersed organization.
  • Supervising a diverse team of communication professionals, including assigning work, evaluating performance, and providing mentorship,
  • Directing enterprise-level digital media operations, including managing websites and social media, and developing content calendars for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Managing relationships and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, such as higher headquarters, broadcast partners, and external content providers.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
