Bowhead seeks an experienced Lead Cable Splicer to support Base Telecommunications System operations and maintenance at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. The Lead Cable Splicer will serve as the primary outside plant (OSP) technical expert responsible for maintaining and supporting telecommunications cable infrastructure at McGuire AFB.
This position will oversee cable locating operations, dig permit coordination, and outside plant maintenance activities while supporting mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure across the installation.

This position will oversee cable locating operations, dig permit coordination, and outside plant maintenance activities while supporting mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure across the installation.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
- Perform copper and fiber optic cable splicing and restoration activities supporting the Base Telecommunications System.
- Support all outside plant telecommunications infrastructure requirements in accordance with operations and maintenance and work order procedures.
- Perform cable locating, staking, and marking activities for construction and excavation projects.
- Process and manage dig permits submitted through the base Civil Engineering web-based system.
- Serve as the telecommunications liaison between the 87th Communications Squadron and other base utility shops regarding dig permit coordination.
- Monitor, review, and complete dig permits submitted to the Communications Squadron.
- Perform cable mark-outs for excavation activities across the installation.
- Maintain cable locating documentation and ensure accurate marking of underground telecommunications infrastructure.
- Attend bi-weekly dig permit coordination meetings with Civil Engineering personnel.
- Provide technical solutions and recommendations for outside plant telecommunications infrastructure projects.
- Support troubleshooting and restoration of telecommunications cable faults and outages.
- Assist with outside plant maintenance activities including cable repair, cable routing, and infrastructure modifications.

Qualifications
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training in telecommunications, fiber optics, or outside plant infrastructure is preferred.
- Years of experience
- Minimum of ten years of experience performing copper and fiber optic cable splicing and outside plant telecommunications work required.
- Required skills or certifications
- Demonstrated experience performing copper and fiber optic cable splicing in telecommunications environments.
- Strong knowledge of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure including direct buried cable, duct banks, manholes, and handholes.
- Experience performing cable locating, staking, and marking activities in support of excavation and construction projects.
- Experience managing dig permit coordination processes and utility mark-out procedures.
- Ability to operate cable locating equipment and accurately identify underground telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ability to diagnose and repair telecommunications cable faults and infrastructure issues.
- Ability to read and interpret telecommunications cable maps, infrastructure drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to support collaboration with base engineering and utility organizations.
- Ability to develop technical solutions for telecommunications infrastructure maintenance and installation requirements.
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
