The Red Gate Group is seeking a Project Controller to lead and own the financial performance visibility and control discipline of assigned projects and programs. The Project Controller owns the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of project financial data, and independently executes project-level cost control, forecasting, and performance analysis from initiation through closeout. They provide leadership with objective, timely insight into cost, schedule, funding, and risk.
The Project Controller partners closely with Project and Program Managers while maintaining independence to ensure accurate reporting, early risk identification, and informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management & Cost Control
- Lead and own project cost control activities, ensuring adherence to approved budgets and funding limits
- Own the development, maintenance, and ongoing management of project budgets , forecasts, and cost baselines
- Monitor actuals versus planned costs and escalate potential overruns to leadershi p
- Track burn rates, funding ceilings, and contractual cost constraints
- Partner with Finance to own project-level inputs supporting revenue recognition, accruals, and invoicing by preparing supporting data and analysis
Forecasting, Analysis & Performance Tracking
- Own and deliver project forecasts and EACs on project staffing and performance trends
- Conduct variance analysis to explain deviations from budget, forecast, and baseline
- Perform financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for review by senior staff
Reporting, Governance & Risk Management
- Prepare regular project financial and performance reports for review and finalization by Finance or PMO leadership
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and supporting project artifacts
- Participate in project risk management activities, assisting with identification and documentation of financial and performance risks
- Ensure consistency and integrity of project reporting standards by following established processes and templates
Business Partnering & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a financial analyst partner to Project and Program Managers
- Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders
- Ask clarifying questions and raise data-driven concerns to support informed tradeoffs
- Escalate risks early through established reporting channels with recommended mitigation strategies
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance , Accounting, Business, or a related field
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in project controls, project finance, including ownership of EACs, BOEs, and PMRs
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Experience supporting multi-project or multi-year programs
- Experience supporting T&M, FFP, and Cos t-plus programs
- Strong understanding of project cost control principles and practices
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams (Finance, Contracts, PMO)
- Demonstrated ability to work proactively, communicate clearly, and remove operational burden from PMs and leadership by anticipating needs
- High level of integrity, judgment, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in government contracting or regulated environments
- Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint Projects (project setup, structure, and controls) and Workforce modules
- Familiarity with PMO structures and project management tools
- Experience with 3 rd Party Timesheet Tracking
