Piper Companies is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer (Level 3) to join an advanced aerospace engineering team in St. Louis, MO (Berkeley site). This role is 100% ONSITE. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing system architectures, building SysML models, and managing requirements to support next-generation aircraft, weapons systems, and air dominance programs. This position requires strong Systems Engineering experience, hands-on MBSE/SysML modeling, proficiency with DOORS, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver accurate, integrated, and testable system solutions.
Responsibilities of the Model-Based Systems Engineer (Level 3):
• Develop and maintain SysML models using MBSE tools such as Cameo or MSOSA
• Translate high-level system requirements into detailed, traceable subsystem requirements
• Use DOORS to manage, organize, and maintain requirement baselines and traceability
• Partner with architects, software engineers, hardware teams, and mission systems experts to design and integrate complex system solutions
• Support system architecture definition, interface management, and integration planning
• Participate in trade studies, risk assessments, and milestone technical reviews
• Contribute to verification and validation (V&V) planning for mission-critical and safety-critical systems
• Document system behaviors, relationships, and architecture elements within the MBSE environment
• Work closely with engineering leadership and Subject Matter Experts to ensure consistent application of Systems Engineering best practices
Qualifications for the Model-Based Systems Engineer (Level 3):
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
• 5+ years of engineering experience
• 4+ years of Systems Engineering experience
• Hands-on experience with SysML modeling tools (Cameo, MSOSA, or equivalent)
• Experience using DOORS for requirements management and traceability
• Background supporting aerospace, defense, avionics, weapons systems, or other highly complex systems
• Experience with system architecture, interface control, decomposition, and verification planning
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance (active Secret within 24 months preferred)
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with tactical aircraft, mission systems, avionics, or weapons systems
• Experience with software requirements, test planning, or certification activities (safety-critical or mission-critical systems)
• Experience using Jira and Confluence
• Familiarity with airworthiness processes or military standards
Compensation for the Model-Based Systems Engineer (Level 3):
Bill Rate: $77.40 - $96.92/hour
Target Pay Rate: ~$57.69/hour
Potential Conversion Salary: ~$120,000
Benefits: 11 paid holidays, 10 PTO days (contract)
Location: 100% ONSITE in St. Louis, MO (Berkeley site)
