Job Description: The Naval Shipyard Institute (NSI) is seeking an instructor for the welding training program. The NSI is a trade-skill training program designed to fast-track new trade workers into a successful career in ship and submarine repair at a Naval Shipyard.
The Welding Instructor will be responsible for teaching students the principles of welding and metal fabrication relevant to naval vessel construction and repair, including safe operation of welding equipment and the application of common shipyard welding processes in preparation for their future employment in a welding shop within a Naval Shipyard. The instructor will develop lesson plans, lead hands-on lecture and laboratory sessions, and ensure that students meet the necessary competencies required for successful shipyard employment. This position involves close collaboration with program managers, a state maritime academy, and a public U.S. Navy Shipyard to align training with current shipyard needs and standards.
Required Skills and Experiences:
• Minimum 5 years' experience in structural welding of ship related work.
• Knowledge of Naval Shipyard operations.
• Experience in SMAW, GTAW and MIG welding operations as well as an understanding of ventilation, selection of welding machines, pre-heat, containment fabrication and hot work processes.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Have or be eligible for a Secret Security Clearance
Degree Requirements:
• High School diploma or GED
