REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Minimum of 10 years' experience operating DoD Group 1-3 or larger Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)
- Must have a UAS Instructor Operator qualification from any DoD service
- Must have a minimum of 1,000 live flight hours (not simulator)
- Must be able to maintain currency or DOD specialized aircraft system qualification; and possess current FAA Class II Medical Certificate or DoD equivalent.
- Must have the ability to apply practical knowledge to flight testing applicable to the developmental and system qualification testing of DoD unmanned aircraft.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- UAS autopilot (such as Ardupilot and Q Ground Control) knowledge and experience is preferred but not required.
- Candidate must have the ability to operate DoD Group 1 and 2 Multirotor and Fixed Wing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in multiple flight modes from a Ground Controlled Station (GCS).
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D Printing experience is preferred but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pilots unmanned observation aircraft vehicles (UAV) remotely to aid military personnel in acquiring information about enemy forces and potential battle areas.
- Operates the UAV to include mission planning, mission sensor and payload operations, launching, remote piloting, and recovery of the aerial vehicle.
- Prepares and conducts air reconnaissance, surveillance, targeting, and acquisition missions; and operates mission sensors and payload for target detection.
- Compiles and examines intelligence that is required to design operational plans and tactics.
- Plans and analyzes flight missions.
- Deploys the tactical UAV ground and air system.
- Operates and performs operator-level maintenance on communications equipment, power sources, light and heavy wheel vehicle, and crane operations.
- Launches and recovers the air vehicles from runways.
- Performs pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures.
- Directs emplacement of ground control station and directs emplacement of launch and recovery systems.
- Supervises and assists in air frame repair and coordinates evacuation and replacement of parts and end items.
