Job Description

Duties

  • You will support for depot in-house and on-site calibration/maintenance support.
  • You will perform tests and calibrations in accordance with instructions which are often vague and incomplete, and may require the preparation of diagrams and instructions to facilitate calibration action.
  • You will investigate and research new test equipment not having adequate instructions for repair and calibration.
  • You will evaluate procedures that are in error or where improved shop techniques and/or new standards have become available and recommend revisions.
  • You will design assembles automated test equipment stations to facilitate more rapid calibration of test equipment at a higher proficiency level.
  • You will act as a liaison in technical matters between Engineering Support Office, Navy Primary Standards Laboratory and other SYSCOMs.
  • You will utilize electronic circuits to measure electronic or electrical quantities to determine the performance characteristics and accuracy of other instruments and equipment.
  • You will analyze circuits and prepare or interpret detailed diagrams and schematics to effectively calibrate and certify a variety of complex electronic precision measurement equipment, instruments, and standards.
  • You will interpret and apply a variety of technical electronic information such as schematic symbols, mathematical expressions and formulas, calibration procedures, and other reference materials.
  • You will perform all other duties as assigned.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms) independently and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • You will work in a sitting position for extended periods of time, with frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping required.
  • You will be required to use manual dexterity and visual acuity to handle very small parts and to make delicate adjustments.
  • You will be responsible for assuring that FRCSW safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • You will insure that shop personnel comply with safety requirements, safety shoes, ear protection, safety glasses, etc.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE performing duties such as:

1) Leading and performing testing, calibration, diagnostics, repair, and certification of Electronic Measurement Equipment, Electro-Mechanical Equipment, Mechanical Test Systems, Automatic Test Stations, Physical, Mechanical Dimensional, Optical, and On-Site Calibrations;

2) Supporting depot in-house and on-site calibration/maintenance support;

3) Coordinating in-house and on-site alignment, troubleshooting, testing, inspecting, repairing, modifying, calibrating and certifying precision measurement equipment such as, RF, microwave equipment, oscilloscopes, time base, audio, power, DC measurements, voltmeters, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, pulse, generators, frequency counter, oscilloscopes, deadweight tester, mercury manometers, optical fixtures, proving rings, and laminar flow meters;

4) Demonstrating a thorough understanding of advanced electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and/or hydraulic principles; and

5) Operating electronic principles related to equipment which is integrated with other devices and complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices with intricate functional relationships. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.

Additional information

The calibrators normally work in clean, well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas, but may be required to work at remote user locations under variable conditions. Employee may be exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or radio frequency energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises. Workers may be required to wear appropriate safety gear such as protective eye wear, and often work within clean room environments where special garments, including head coverings, shoe coverings, and gloves are required.
