As a strategic Communications Director - Level 1 located in McLean, VA, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This role will report to the sector communications lead and will lead priority capture communications for priority business initiatives, leading the communications strategy across earned, owned and paid channels and measuring results.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about building and executing communications campaigns, translating complex subjects into compelling content, and cultivating relationships with stakeholders. You will work closely with cross-functional and program communications teams and business leaders to create strategic, omni-channel communications that tell our story to key audiences.

In this job, you will:
  • Lead priority capture communications focused on strategic priorities for the business across the space portfolio and enterprise portfolio, elevate company thought leadership on important next generation technologies and emerging markets.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to drive effective communications in support of priority business initiatives in the Space domain and Northrup Grumman.
  • Oversee the development and execution of an omni-channel, integrated communications plans to achieve business and communication goals.
  • Lead, prepare and position subject matter experts for strategic communications opportunities across channels, ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder engagement.
  • Prepare and share metrics on communications efforts and leverage those results to evolve strategies and approaches to achieve business objectives.
  • Partner with functional colleagues to develop communications materials, including collateral, videos, speeches, presentations, media engagements and more.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years of professional experience in communications, media relations, public relations, and public affairs including people management experience - OR - Master's degree with 8 years of professional experience in communications, media relations, public relations, and public affairs including people management experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience in C-suite communications and messaging strategy
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working with the U.S. Department of War
  • Experience leading or managing cross-functional teams
  • Proven experience in developing and activating strategic media and communication campaigns with measurable business impact
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including intra-office travel within the DC metro area and other sites as needed
  • Experience leading and mentoring individuals in their professional development
  • Aerospace and defense industry experience, with a familiarization of DoD and Global government customers


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent collaboration and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively interface with and influence all levels of management
  • Experience in government communications leadership roles
  • Excellent speechwriting skills, with experience in developing executive level content, talking points and statements
  • Ability to support and enhance strong communications standards, workflows and branding guidelines
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience in a large, matrixed, and/or geographically dispersed organization.
  • Proven ability to cultivate productive relationships with executives and media representatives

Primary Level Salary Range: $185,400.00 - $278,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
