Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems - Software System Engineer (ENT) (26-073) to join our talented and diverse team. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial component of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2BMC is vital for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
This position is for a Software Systems Engineer on the C2BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for software systems engineering deliverables for their Scrum team, including developing software products.

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Will conduct in-depth analysis and provide technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user assistance
- Support for Systems Engineering will be provided to the team that maintains, debugs, and configures related software products
- Works from specifications to develop or modify applications for operating systems
- Supports design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
- Collaborate with the SEIT organization to break down system requirements into well-defined software requirements
- Collaborate with the SEIT organization to develop system use cases, CONOPS, and sequences
- Collaborate with the SEIT organization to develop or update system external interfaces
- Author or assist with proposals
- Perform software design, including defining use cases and sequences at the product level
- Create and maintain software designs - Algorithm Design Documents, Functional Design Documents
Basic Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's Degree in STEM fields such as Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related area from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree (preferred) in a STEM-related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related discipline with 1 year of relevant work experience
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Deep understanding of systems engineering processes and principles
- Proven track record of effectively implementing system engineering principles to create product solutions
- Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions
- Candidates must have experience in developing large, complex systems
- Experience developing systems engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies)
- Software development experience developing applications
- Experience with use of common software development and management tools such as Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven or Gradle, and Eclipse
- Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts, such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Systems Engineering is preferred
- Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
- Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)
- Development of command and control system applications
- Experience with automated testing and pipeline development preferred
- Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms
- Experience with software integration testing, including developing automated test scripts
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience in performance modeling
- Experience with build management tools and pipelines
- Previous C2BMC experience
- Experience working in an Agile development environment, with domain expertise in Space and Missile Defense
- Proficient in systems analysis, model-based system engineering, architecture development, virtualization, containerization, and cloud computing principles.
- Demonstrated experience working on large multi-site software development efforts, including external interface development
- Demonstrated experience in conducting or leading Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies, and/or Design Evaluations
- Experience in designing large command, control, and/or weapon systems
- Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and MBSE tools
- The successful candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the flexibility needed to thrive in a highly dynamic environment
