Position Overview
The Public Affairs Specialist supports SOCOM internal and external communications by developing strategic messaging, written products, and visual content. This role combines editorial excellence, public affairs expertise, and multimedia production to support senior leaders and a highly specialized audience. The specialist works closely with PA leadership to ensure accurate, engaging, and standards‑compliant communication.

Position Overview

The specialist works closely with PA leadership to ensure accurate, engaging, and standards‑compliant communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and manage SOCOM internal communication strategies
- Develop speeches, talking points, key messages, and narrative themes for senior leaders
- Support strategic public affairs planning and coordination with IO, PSYOP, and interagency partners
- Write and edit news stories, features, and command updates
- Capture and produce professional photography and visual content
- Design and layout print and digital publications
- Coordinate across PA teams and maintain content calendars and metrics
- Monitor and analyze media coverage; produce actionable media reports
- Support emerging PA requirements as needed
Requirements
- Possess active Top Secret Clearance, eligible for SCI
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in public affairs, journalism, strategic communications, or media relations
- Minimum 4 years of public affairs experience at the E-6/O-4 level within the Department of War, federal government, or national security environment, with demonstrated experience supporting high-level military commands or executive communications.
- At least 3 years of experience in layout and design of print/digital publications, photography and visual content production.
- Proficient in DVIDS, and/or other DOW media management platforms
- Minimum 2 years of experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite
- Understanding of the Joint Information Environment (JIE), Information Operations (IO), and Strategic Communication principles.
Location & Hours
- On-site at HQ USSOCOM and HQ SOCCENT, MacDill AFB, FL
- Monday-Friday (Federal holidays excluded)
- Core hours: 0900-1500
