The Southern California (SOCAL) Fleet Operational Readiness Division, Code 25, manages the air, surface, submarine, and combat system test and analysis, weapon evaluation, mobile target, tactical exercise analysis, magnetic signature reduction, and range support programs assigned to the Department's Southern California operations. Code 25 prepares, operates, maintains, and repairs underwater acoustic tracking instrumentation, mobile Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) targets MK 30, unmanned underwater vehicles and other ASW targets. They provide and conduct direct liaison with Southern California Offshore Range Extension (SCORE) and Fleet range users on matters dealing with underwater range scheduling, underwater tracking instrumentation, and technical support services for range/off-range operations. In addition, they perform aircraft, surface ship, and submarine shipboard electronic systems evaluation and radiated noise measurements, analysis, and reporting. They support the Department's ship test and analysis functions in Southern California. They operate and maintain the San Clemente Island Underwater Range (SCIUR), Fleet Operational Readiness and Accuracy Check Site (FORACS) and Shipboard Electronics Systems Evaluation Facility (SESEF) ship test ranges in the Southern California area and the Magnetic Silencing Facility (MSF) treatment and measurement facilities.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Electrical Engineer (Engineering Technician V) assists mechanical engineers with design, testing, and manufacturing of machinery, consumer products, and other equipment on the San Diego Detachment Support Services contract. This position is located in San Diego, CA.

What You'll Do
- Determine placement of power distribution components (110V, 208V, 240V, 480V AC), including motor-generator sets, control equipment, transformers, electrical distribution panels, and related equipment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment, systems, generators, switchboards, and control equipment in a shipyard and marine environment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, or replace Electrical Wiring Interconnect System (EWIS) components, including power distribution cables, connectors, back shells, and fiber optic components.
- Apply trade practices and technical knowledge to repair faulty electrical equipment and wiring systems.
- Operate power tools (e.g., pipe benders, cutters, power drills) to cut, bend, fit, and thread components of electrical equipment and systems.
- Use hand tools and test equipment to check alignment, output, resistance to ground, and other electrical characteristics.
- Diagnose faulty electrical equipment or systems and determine whether rework or replacement of components is required during alterations and repairs.
- Interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electronic schematics to troubleshoot and identify faults in power distribution circuits.
- Lift and carry materials or equipment up to 50 pounds (22.68 kg).
- Provide operational life-cycle support for system equipment.
- Review applicable references daily for scheduled operations and system assignments.
- Prepare turnaround activities and inspect, test, maintain, and repair hardware.
- Perform preventive maintenance on system components, shop equipment, and support equipment.
- Assist in documenting the status of hardware modifications and implementing FCIs, RFVs, and ECPs.
- Support Mobilization (MOB) and De-Mobilization (DeMOB) operations.
- Troubleshoot functions including tracking and reporting the status of critical asset items and testing hardware.
- Maintain an inventory of handling equipment and track items in a database.
- Support prototyping activities as required.
- Bid and proposal support if requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
- HS Diploma / GED required.
- At least three (3) years of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering support, or experience as a journeyman industrial electrician.
- Knowledge of technical practices required to plan, lay out, and complete maintenance or repair work on high-voltage equipment and distribution lines.
- Knowledge of high-voltage electrical equipment and distribution systems, including transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel circuits, line loading, and line losses.
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, shop instruments, and standard trade practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and locate defects or problem areas.
- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, procedures, and practices, with the ability to perform work safely.
- Skill in the use and maintenance of electrical tools and diagnostic test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electronic schematics.
- Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain high-voltage power control equipment, distribution lines, wiring, and fiber optic systems with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interpret written instructions, technical documentation, and specifications.
- Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

- Travel Required ~25% travel required.

Desired Qualifications:
- Completion of a trade school or training program desired.
- State journeyman license desired.
- Previous experience in an industrial environment strongly desired.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
- The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
- The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
