Description
Leidos has an exciting opportunity for a Communications and Technical Writer to support our customer. The role is with the Managed Infrastructure Service Provider (MiSP) contract for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This position is currently fully remote.
This contract supports CMS goals to deliver an efficient, easy-to-use hosting environment to migrate legacy applications from premises to multi-Cloud environments and the modernization and onboarding of new applications. The program works with application owners, providers, CMS stakeholders, and other contractors in a complex, matrixed environment.

The program works with application owners, providers, CMS stakeholders, and other contractors in a complex, matrixed environment.
In this role you will:
- Collaborate with IT engineers, software developers, and subject matter experts to drive discussions necessary to gather technical information required to identify and then prepare quality, audience targeted communications, how-to, and training materials, including written text, directional screen shots or graphics, and other material as needed.
- Identify, set up, and facilitate customer, project team, and cross-contract collaborations in order to determine communications scope, responsibility and appropriate deliverable requirements for communications.
- Create and adapt written deliverables and incorporate edits based on multiple feedback tiers without losing the original message intent.
- Investigate and understand deeply technical software development, Cloud and other application language and plans to generate written communications and training documentation that can be understood by non-technical audiences.
- Experience with AI language models to draft and review assembled communications. Develop and deliver communication plans and related deliverables based on project goals and audience strategies, including but not limited to internal web portal articles, and technical documents using Confluence, Jira, Contentful, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Lean and adhere to customer developed brand, writing and style guides.
- Have a positive, customer-centric, “can do” attitude.
- Bring your excellent communications, content, and technical writing skills to create effective, plain language, 508 compliant, compelling, and creative written content.

Primary Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Delivery Management Manager and with close coordination and input from the Communications Content and Technical Writer Lead, your responsibilities will include:
- Consult relevant sources, including subject matter experts, documents (and research), and client and project personnel, to obtain background information and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables.
- Work successfully within project teams and manage work independently through program level and customer review and approval processes.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand technical architectures, systems, and processes as they relate to multi-cloud migrations and support.
- Translate technical changes, migrations, and upgrades into concise, business-focused insights, trainings, and web articles for non-technical audiences.
- Identify and develop product, service, and project deliverables such as training briefs and presentations, targeted messages, internal portal content, digital newsletters, knowledge articles, and FAQs for training and technical documentation.
- Develop, review, copyedit, and proofread content.
- Ensure documents meet editorial and government specifications and adhere to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
- Present and explain communications approach and deliverables to project team and customer facing audiences.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum six (6)+ years of experience as a communications or technical writer in environments of similar scope and complexity.
- Bachelor’s degree in writing, technical writing, journalism, mass communications, or closely related discipline. Four (4) years of additional technical writer experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
- Masters’ Degree in a related field is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments.
- Strong collaboration skills to work in a team across multiple disciplines.
- Ability to research and organize processes in a concise manner.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
