A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science
OR
A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene
OR
Certification from the (ABIH).
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:
GS-9
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
Or
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree

1 year of graduate-level education

- You will work with engineering, safety and supervisory personnel to devise control measures such as change in work procedures, ventilation systems, material substitution, or the use of personal protective devices.
- You will recognize and evaluate occupational health hazards.
- You will perform unscheduled evaluations and accompanies special inspection teams.
- You will review facility plans for new construction, renovation and modification of existing structures for appropriate engineering controls to control hazardous materials, noise and physical hazards.
- You will conduct and document Similar Exposure Groups exposure assessments in the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System- Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) database.
- You will provide on-the-job technical guidance to on-site junior industrial hygienists and industrial hygiene technicians in carrying out inspections, surveys and samplings.
