Job Description

We have an opening for a Deployed Security Officer at the Joint Laboratory Office Nevada (JLON). You will work at the Nevada facilities to provide security support to programmatic operations. You will support Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) operations occurring at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Serve as Primary COMSEC Officer for SD activities in Nevada. You are expected to live in Nevada and travel to Livermore, CA (20% travel) for training and team integration. You will interface with customers both internal and external to the Laboratory, including Department of Energy (DOE), and Headquarters (HQ) and Site Offices. In addition, you will collaborate with the Strategic Deterrence Directorate Security Office to prepare and participate in all JLON security-based assessments. This position is within the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead incident response activities in close coordination with the Security Incident Response Team, including incident triage, containment, mitigation, and post-incident follow up.
  • Chair and direct Causal Analysis teams, define scope and objectives, facilitate fact finding, identify root and contributing causes, and drive development and tracking of corrective actions.
  • Plan and execute effectiveness reviews of security processes and controls, evaluate performance against requirements, and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct on-site security walk downs in operations and program areas, identify vulnerabilities and non conformances, document findings, and implement or coordinate corrective actions as required.
  • Manage the ComSec program, including lifecycle oversight of ComSec material and equipment, procedure updates, records management, internal audits, and coordination with custodians and other team members to ensure compliance.
  • Brief line management and program organizations on their security posture, risk areas, incident trends, and required corrective measures, and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver security presentations and awareness materials that provide instruction on a broad range of security functions, including classified matter protection and control, physical security, information security, and personnel security.
  • Plan and perform formal and informal self-assessments of security programs and activities, document results, track corrective actions, and serve as the Security Directorate point of contact for security related audits, assessments, and inspections.
  • Promote a strong security culture by proactively engaging staff, communicating expectations, reinforcing requirements, and identifying opportunities to prevent incidents and reduce risk.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and maintenance of Security Plans and security implementation plans, ensuring alignment with Department of Energy (DOE) and institutional policies and requirements.
  • Coordinate and perform daily travel to and from Las Vegas, Pahrump, or other designated offsite locations as required to support mission needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q level clearance, or an active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency, at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Security, Business, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more major security disciplines, including: Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC), Information Security, Physical Security, Computer / Cyber Security, and Personnel Security.
  • Experience working with COMSEC equipment and associated accountability, control, and handling requirements.
  • Experience preparing, documenting, and presenting security and safeguards reports and briefings to internal organizations and management.
  • Working knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) security and safeguards policies, practices, and procedures, and the ability to interpret and apply them to operational activities.
  • Experience working in a demanding, high tempo environment with short and changing deadlines, frequent interruptions, and demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and complete work with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact, discretion, and mature judgment.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience conducting causal analyses and self-assessments, and participating in or supporting security related audits, inspections, or external assessments.
  • Familiarity with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience supporting or working within a scientific, engineering, or technical program environment.
  • Knowledge of Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) security policies and procedures.
  • Completion of DOE COMSEC training (TSP-301).

Pay Range

$83,796 - $131,604 for the J01.3 Level in Nevada

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Security Clearance
