SQL Database Developer
Location: Remote
Description:
Higher Echelon is seeking a highly skilled SQL Database Developer to design, build, and maintain complex database systems that support critical business operations and data-driven decision making. This role will translate business requirements into robust data models and physical database architectures while ensuring performance, security, scalability, and data quality across enterprise environments. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SQL development, data warehousing, and database optimization, along with the ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders and deliver reliable, high-quality database solutions. This is a 100% Remote role.
Job Responsibilities:
• Design and implement, complex data models, translating business requirements into logical models that accurately represent entity relationships and data flows
• Develop, optimize, and maintain T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and triggers in support of application and pipeline development
• Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from transactional systems, external sources, and manual uploads including large-scale analytics workloads
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data flows and entity relationships, converting business requirements into functional database solutions
• Identify and resolve performance issues including query optimization, indexing strategies, blocking, and deadlock analysis
• Write and troubleshoot complex SQL including joins, window functions, aggregations, and parameterized queries
• Develop .NET/C# application code and Entity Framework integrations that interact with backend database systems
• Participate in Agile CI/CD workflows collaborating with scrum, DevOps, architecture, and production teams
• Support data quality and governance practices across enterprise data environments
• Contribute to code reviews, unit testing, and quality assurance of database and application deliverables
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior developers on SQL development best practices
Required Skills:
• Proven track record of working with complex database systems and data warehousing solutions.
• Experience with database design, architecture, and data modeling.
• Proficiency in SQL programming and query optimization. - Strong knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Ability to read and interpret SQL Server execution plans
• SQL server performance analysis using Query Store, Extended Events, and DMVs
• Experience designing, covering/filtered indexes and addressing parameter sniffing
• Ability to optimize T-SQL queries (joins, predicates, window functions, aggregation)
• Experience identifying blocking, deadlocks, and high wait scenarios
• Use of appropriate isolation levels (e.g. READ COMMITTED SNAPSHOT) to reduce blocking
• Ability to identify and eliminate unnecessary or redundant indexes
• Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and database query optimization techniques.
• Ability to write and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
• CI/CD tool experience (Git, Jira, Jenkins, automated deployment workflows)
• Hands-on experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale analytics solutions (e.g., SSIS, Informatica, Talend).
• Strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture, governance, security, and data movement concepts
• Understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies.
• Experience with big data solutions, analytic models, and rapid prototyping in enterprise environments
• Understanding of cloud cost optimization and production lifecycle management
• Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
• Experience with database security, user roles, and permissions.
• Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for database automation tasks.
• .NET and C# development experience
• Entity Framework experience
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
Desired Skills and Experience:
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) is desirable.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies is a plus.
• Advanced certifications in database management systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Certified Professional) are preferred.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required with eight (8) years or more experience.
• 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in SQL development and database management.
