Description:
Space Base Delta 3 is seeking an elite Protocol Specialist to serve as a pivotal member of the Commander's personal staff. If you are a master of protocol, diplomacy, and strategic planning and thrive in a high-stakes environment where your work directly influences international partnerships and command-level decisions, this could be the position for you.
As the Chief of Protocol, your responsibilities will include:
Serve as the lead planner for all high-level engagements, from orchestrating visits with international space partners to managing ceremonies that honor our service members. You will ensure every detail reflects the prestige and professionalism of the command.
Develop the long-range strategic engagement calendar, creating opportunities for the SBD 3 Commander to connect with key allies and dignitaries.
Apply your expert knowledge of diplomatic customs to navigate complex interactions with foreign military leaders and government officials, ensuring transparency and respect in every setting. You will be the authority on seating, gift exchanges, and formal procedures.
Take full charge of the Official Representational Fund (ORF). Proven ability to manage budgets, analyze funding requirements, and ensure strict fiscal accountability. You will meticulously budget, validate, and certify all expenditures for official functions, ensuring absolute compliance with DoD and command directives while enabling critical diplomatic activities.
Ideal Candidate:
Frequently required to ensure that the customs, concepts, practices, and regulations dealing with national and international diplomatic formality, precedence, and etiquette (i.e. seating, flags, receiving lines, music) such as that gained by extensive experience in working with protocol and skill in applying this knowledge to planning in directing the details of all formal visits of high ranking dignitaries both from within the Federal Government and from the international scene. This includes:
- Knowledge of etiquette, military customs, and international protocol as well as an understanding of management techniques is essential in order to adequately schedule visits through the many organizations assuring the visitor's purpose is accomplished. Knowledge of Air Force, Congress, Space and Systems Command, and SBD 3 organizational structure, functions, and operations sufficient to adequately brief visiting dignitaries on programs of interest.
- Skill in making oral presentation designed to inform the visitors about the various history and programs underway at Space and Systems Command.
- Skill in analyzing the results of visits, i.e., agenda items and/or various activities participation in an effort to enhance the overall program.
- Skill in coordinating the participation of all activities on the base affected by the visit including all tenants and contractors.
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with representatives of other protocol offices, representatives of other government agencies, representatives of foreign governments, i. e., embassies, consulates, and representatives of major private industries.
- Skill in developing agendas and in setting up itineraries to prepare programs to include guest lists, menus, seating arrangements, etc.

- Must be a U.S Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework".
- This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
- Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
- PCS / relocation funding is not authorized.
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
