Duties

As an HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, WG-5803-10, you will:
  • Perform major repairs and maintenance on heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles
  • Diagnose the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, test equipment
  • Make adjustments and repair to front ends, suspensions and electrical systems
  • Determine serviceability by operational driving test.
  • Perform body repair and corrosion control, refinish and repaint surfaces as required.
  • Clean, test and repair radiators/oil coolers and associated parts.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.

Military Grades: E-3 to E-5

Security Clearance: Selectee is required to obtain a Secret Security Clearance within one (1) year of appointment.

Additional Requirements:
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
Qualifications

General Experience
Must have the following experience(s):
  • Making repairs or assisting with repairs
  • Removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts
Specialized Experience
Must have 18 months of the following experience(s):
  • Training on diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems
  • Using diagnostic equipment
  • Applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems
  • Testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment and systems

Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance within 1(One) Year of appointment.
