Duties

  • Operates diesel powered special purpose airfield clearing equipment, including vacuum type sweeper to clear Runways, taxiways, ramps, and aprons of foreign objects.
  • Identifies, maintains failing rigid and flexible pavement on the airfield and performs spall repair. Must be able to recognize rigid pavements failing using sounding rods.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a Safe and clean work environment.
  • Use and maintains tools and equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • LIAW SA-2020-25 This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical/medical requirements of this position as determined are constant climbing on and off vehicles;
  • reaching, bending, turning, moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments while sitting for extended periods of time
  • Must be capable of lifting 75-100 pounds in changing attachments on vehicles
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-5767 ability to do the work of a WG-7404 COOK without more than normal supervision. without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of special purpose airfield clearing equipment, such as vacuum type sweepers and attachments used to clear taxiways, runways, aprons, and ramps of foreign objects.
2.Knowledge of the different sets of controls and operation of special purpose airfield clearing equipment and attachments.
3.Skill to repair rigid and flexible pavement on airfield using cement and tar sealant.
4. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
5.Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
6.Ability to use and maintain power/hand tools required for operator maintenance of equipment.

Physical Effort
Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly climbing on and off vehicles; constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments while sitting for extended periods of time. Requires physical and mental coordination and depth perception. Must be capable of lifting 75-100 pounds in changing attachments on vehicles. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Eyestrain is probable when operating vehicles during adverse weather conditions. Factor

Working Conditions
The employee works outside in all kinds of weather, often in an open driver's seat. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning, and to slipping and sliding on ice, snow or other weather conditions. Employee is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as parkas, hard hats or other head coverings, steel- toed shoes, gloves, masks, and eye protection.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
