Position Summary
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a Composite Fabrication Specialist B to join our team in North Charleston, SC. This role supports a wide range of fabrication, assembly, machining, and mechanical/electrical operations critical to aerospace manufacturing. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, able to read technical drawings, and able to work safely in a physically demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform machine setup, machining, welding setup, welding, sheet metal fabrication, extrusion, and tube bending/fabrication.
- Complete composite lay-up, fabrication, and assembly tasks.
- Assemble precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components.
- Assemble, repair, modify, and install various power plants and drive trains.
- Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products.
- Assemble and install wire harnesses and avionics hardware.
- Prepare test articles, fixtures, and data-collection devices for testing.
- Perform basic chemical conversion and paint preparation.
- Apply routine organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance.
- Follow established drawings, specifications, and requirements for articles of limited complexity.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and typically 1+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
- Ability to work a variable shift.
- 1+ years using internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite, and/or specialized computer applications.
- 1+ years reading/ interpreting blueprints, drawings, specifications, and following detailed work instructions (in English).
- 1+ years applying mathematical calculations in a technical environment.
- 1+ years experience using basic hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
- 1+ years experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly.
- Required: Ability to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications
Top Technical Skills Required
- Conventional material lay-up and precision measuring
- Use of power, pneumatic, and hand tools
- CNC experience
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, material processes, schematics, and diagrams (English)
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform:
- Flexion/extension (head bent forward/back)
- Handling, kneeling, bending at the waist
- Reaching overhead, turning head/neck
- Standing, twisting, walking
- Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces)
- Crawling and crouching (squatting)
- Lifting/carrying 10-35 pounds
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work with High Hazard Chemicals
- Ability to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications
- Training Requirement: Successful completion of 8-10 weeks of OJT or classroom training
