Duties

  • You will develop Air Traffic Control procedures for airspace requirements in Antarctica in support of the National Science Foundation.
  • You will plan and manage the establishment and control of assigned airspace.
  • You will develop and negotiate solutions to operational concepts to establish control for the management and enforcement of assigned airspace.
  • You will recommend and develop appropriate modifications to policies, regulations, agreements, and other directives that bear upon or impact operational air traffic requirements affecting assigned airspace.
  • You will be required to qualify and remain current at various Air Traffic Control facilities as deemed appropriate by management and to perform duties as a Designated Examiner for all Air Traffic Control personnel.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Age Shall not have turned 36 years old prior to onboarding. DoD employed civilian air traffic controllers will be handled in accordance with applicable law, rule or regulations.
  • Pre-appointment physical examinations are required for this position. If selected, you will be provided instructions on completing a Polar Physical for a United States Antarctica Program deployment physical to meet this requirement.
  • Shall maintain a current annual physical examination in accordance with physical standards specified in the Department of Navy Manual of the Medical Department (MANMED).

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or NO-04 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: expertise in Air Traffic Control, including radar and non-radar operations, and developing airspace management procedures. Key qualifications include knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration regulations, agency collaboration, and experience in ensuring operational compliance.
AND
Must be a graduate of FAA or DoD equivalent air traffic control school. Must possess a Control Tower Operator Certificate. Must be previously qualified on a position which was responsible for separating two or more aircraft simultaneously in a Radar environment.
AND

Must possess skills in written and oral communications, to include formal/informal meetings, conferences, public forums, and telephone conversations with civilians, external stakeholders and other government agencies.
