MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented General Arrangements (GA) & Habitability Engineer to join our team working in the Washington D.C. Navy Yard. This is a hybrid position and will require 3 days onsite per week.
The GA & Habitability Engineer will serve as a key technical contributor, coordinating across government, shipyard, and contractor stakeholders to resolve design, modernization, and in-service technical issues.

The GA & Habitability Engineer will serve as a key technical contributor, coordinating across government, shipyard, and contractor stakeholders to resolve design, modernization, and in-service technical issues.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide technical engineering support and risk assessments for design and modernization decisions supporting Nimitz- and Ford-class aircraft carriers
- Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for: general arrangement drawings, compartmentation and access drawings, booklet of general plans, and other related ship arrangement documentation
- Provide engineering and design oversight for shipboard habitability spaces and associated systems, including but not limited to messing and berthing areas; sanitary and hygiene spaces; medical, dental, laundry, and utility spaces; and offices, workshops, lockers, and storerooms
- Collaborate with SUPSHIP Newport News to resolve general arrangements and habitability-related technical issues
- Prepare written technical responses to Requests for Technical Assistance (RTA), Departure from Specification (DFS), and Liaison Action Requests (LAR)
- Support ship modernization efforts by addressing general arrangement and habitability impacts associated with Ship Change Documents (SCDs), including development of new SCDs
- Coordinate engineering actions with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP, Newport News Shipbuilding, and other stakeholders as required
- Review technical data packages, drawings, and engineering reports, and provide clear written recommendations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Experience with shipboard general arrangements and/or habitability spaces and systems supporting U.S. military, Military Sealift Command (MSC), or commercial ocean-going passenger vessels
- Must have prior experience supporting ship construction, maintenance, or modernization activities
- Experience delivering oral and written correspondence to stakeholders at multiple organizational levels, including engineers, program managers, and senior leadership
- Demonstrated experience producing formal technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting nuclear-powered ships
- Prior experience working with: NAVSEA 05 and/or NAVSEA 08, Shipyards, NSWC / NUWC, SUPSHIP, Regional Maintenance Centers (RMC), Type Commanders (TYCOM) or similar organizations
Clearance Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government secret security clearance
Physical Requirements:
- The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
- Must be able to maneuver aboard ships in port, to include ascending and descending ladders as necessary
