Software Test Engineer III

Lead testing and validation of software that evaluates missile defense threats-ensuring Ground Fire Control systems operate reliably to defend the nation.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
• Design and execute advanced software test procedures supporting the Ground Weapons System (GWS) and Ground Fire Control (GFC) mission software.
• Validate complex software capabilities including advanced mathematics and physics-based algorithms used in missile defense operations.
• Develop and lead test planning activities including test plans, procedures, and automated test strategies.
• Perform integration and verification testing across a large-scale codebase (~1.5 million lines) supporting missile defense threat evaluation systems.
• Analyze software behavior and test results to identify defects, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, system engineers, and mission stakeholders to validate new capabilities and ensure mission readiness.
• Support execution of mission software testing within secure development environments and operational testing events.
• Participate in technical discussions, reviews, and engineering briefings supporting program development and deployment.
• Travel up to 10% to support program needs, testing activities, and mission operations.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.
• 5 years of related software testing or engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree
• 3 years of related experience with a Master's degree
• 1 year of related experience with a PhD
• Working knowledge of system design, requirements development, use cases, and advanced test planning
• Experience developing test plans, procedures, and leading software test events
• Recent experience with software testing or system integration
• Experience with object-oriented programming languages
• Knowledge of Python and automation scripting
• Strong communication skills for technical collaboration, reporting, and presentations
• Ability to analyze complex systems and translate technical concepts into test documentation and mission reports
• Ability to work independently and contribute leadership within collaborative engineering teams
• Ability to support an in-person / closed-area development environment
• Ability to travel up to 10% to support mission needs
• Active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance required at time of application
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting the Missile Defense Agency Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Git, GitLab, or Bitbucket
• Understanding of containerized environments and orchestration tools such as Podman, Docker, or Kubernetes
• Experience with Eggplant test automation tools
• Experience performing root cause analysis and analyzing large system log files
