Lead the development of mission-critical missile defense software-guiding Agile teams while contributing directly to the code that powers Ground Fire Control capabilities protecting the United States.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
• Serve as Product Owner for the Ground Fire Control (GFC) software team, defining the product roadmap, vision, and priorities supporting the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) mission.
• Estimate, plan, and schedule software development activities for the Agile Scrum team while tracking progress metrics and briefing program leadership.
• Develop and maintain mission software written primarily in Ada, with modular development in C++ integrated into the Ada-based system architecture.
• Collaborate with engineers and system stakeholders to translate mission requirements into actionable development tasks and capabilities.
• Contribute directly to software development, implementing complex algorithms and performance-critical capabilities supporting missile defense operations.
• Utilize Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence to manage development tasks, documentation, and sprint planning activities.
• Support DevSecOps practices using CI/CD automation tools including Jenkins, Git/GitLab, and Ansible.
• Work in a Unix/Linux development environment supporting high-performance mission software.
• Participate in technical reviews, engineering discussions, and system integration activities across multidisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.
Experience Requirements
• 8 years of related software engineering or systems development experience with a Bachelor's degree
• 6 years of related experience with a Master's degree
• 4 years of related experience with a PhD
• Maximum experience level not to exceed 14 years
Technical Requirements
• Recent and extensive experience developing software in Ada, C++, or Java
• Willingness to become highly proficient in Ada software development
• Experience leading a technical team of 5 or more engineers
• Experience estimating, planning, and scheduling software development work for engineering teams
• Experience working in Agile development environments using tools such as Jira and Confluence
• Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD automation tools including Jenkins, Git/GitLab, and Ansible
• Unix/Linux operating system experience
• Strong technical presentation and communication skills
• Proven ability to understand complex algorithms and implement them in software
• Strong collaboration skills and willingness to work across multiple technical domains
• Ability to support an in-person / closed-area development environment
• Active or Interim DoD Secret security clearance required
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting the Missile Defense Agency Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program
• Experience with MATLAB and Python
• Extensive experience with Linux environments, scripting, and operations
• Advanced degree in Mathematics or Physics
• Strong background in mathematics including linear algebra, statistics, and algorithm development
• Knowledge of physics domains such as astrodynamics or orbital mechanics
• Experience with optimization algorithms
• Experience with planning and scheduling algorithms
• Experience with sensor modeling, communications modeling, or missile modeling
• Experience supporting Battle Management or Fire Control systems
