The N114 Resilient Warfighter Space Services Department is committed to delivering resilient space-based capabilities that enable successful joint warfighting across all domains. Our team conducts cutting-edge technical research and prototype development, providing senior government leaders with data-driven insights to advance space-based capabilities. Our diverse portfolio spans multiple missions, with a focus on resilient Satellite Communications (Satcom) and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT). The N114 Department is seeking an experienced SATCOM engineer to support SSC System Delta 88 acquisition of critical satellite communication space capabilities and integration with Mission Delta 8. In this role, you will take on some of the nation's toughest technical challenges and help advance a more capable, resilient SATCOM space enterprise in the public interest. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across MITRE and with partner government organizations. This project is aligned with the MITRE Air & Space Force Center's resilient communications common capabilities and will play a key role in advancing the Center's strategy.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Leverage technical expertise in Wireless Communications, Networking, and Systems Integration to enable the US Space Force to acquire and field SATCOM Systems enabling operations across the spectrum of conflict
- Lead technical interagency government, contractor, and vendor teams in the development, demonstration, and deployment of advanced space-based technologies. Overseeing the technical planning and execution of the work and developing and presenting results to the government sponsor
- Perform systems engineering analysis for requirement trades, design and integration trades, end-to-end performance analysis, and identifying risk mitigation approaches
- Recommend feasible integration actions, technical baseline changes, and technology insertion initiatives, advocate for these recommendations with stakeholders.
- Identify targeted opportunities for MITRE's SATCOM Labs to integrate, prototype and experiment with emerging technologies to validate concepts and reduce risk for USG
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
Basic Qualifications:
- US citizenship with current US government Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret /SCI clearance.
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a B.S degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related field; or 8 years and a Master's degree or a PhD with 5 years of experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Experience in systems engineering with expertise across the development lifecycle from concept development, through requirements definition, system development and integration, and verification.
- Demonstrated technical expertise of Military SATCOM Systems in the Strategic, Tactical Wideband, or Narrowband domains
- Demonstrated technical expertise in the Commercial SATCOM
- Experience working with multiple engineering disciplines to provide solutions to complex problems that require unified software, hardware, mechanical, and reliability approaches while balancing cost and schedule constraints.
- Expertise in several technologies including but not limited to NGSO satellite communications, ground station as a service, mesh networking, edge computing platforms, network protocols, encryption, open architectures/standards, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and build collaboration across organizational units and leverage existing work to benefit other Sponsor needs.
- Ability to communicate highly conceptual or complex ideas.
- Critical thinking skills and proactive approach to research and problem-solving.
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret clearance.
- Experience in sponsor engagement and business development to include work shaping, work management, collaboration across internal and external organizations, and transitioning prototypes to operational use.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across multiple organizations and engineering disciplines.
- Proven ability to communicate complex issues with Government Program Office personnel.
- Demonstrated expertise in Tactical Satcom, in particular, Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES)
- Proficiency in systems engineering principles (requirements analysis, risk management, verification/validation).
