Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support high-visibility national security space programs. This role focuses on developing and executing high-fidelity space mission simulations to evaluate spacecraft performance, mission resilience, and operational effectiveness in contested and dynamic environments.
The selected candidate will apply astrodynamics, analytical modeling, and mission-focused simulation techniques to support operational planning, system performance analysis, mission protection, and digital engineering initiatives.
Essential Functions:
•Experience with orbital mechanics modeling and space mission analysis.
•Develop, implement, and maintain high-fidelity space mission models and simulations supporting operational planning, performance analysis, and mission assurance activities.
•Perform orbital mechanics modeling including orbit propagation, maneuver analysis, rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO), conjunction assessment, and/or covariance analysis.
•Develop and execute threat-informed simulation scenarios incorporating adversary capabilities, red vs blue modeling, and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) considerations.
•Present technical findings, risk assessments, and analytical insights to program leadership and/or customer stakeholders.
•Support exercise planning, wargaming activities, and mission rehearsal simulations as required.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
•Top Secret/SCI with CI Poly required.
•2 years of experience demonstrating the ability to translate operational requirements into executable simulation architectures.
•2 years experience with modeling tools such as STK, ODTK, GMAT, FreeFlyer, or Python-based analytical environments.
Preferred Additional Skills:
•Experience supporting Space Domain Awareness (SDA), Mission Protection, or national security space operations programs.
•Knowledge of threat modeling and contested space environments.
•Experience supporting wargaming or operational exercises in coordination with Department of War (DoW) and Intelligence Community (IC) organizations, including U.S. Space Force and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).
