Software Engineer – Internal Research & Development (IRAD)
Location: Colorado Springs

This role supports an Internal Research and Development (IRAD) effort within a multi-domain, missile-defense-focused business unit. As a software developer on the IRAD team, you will work collaboratively to understand system requirements, design new capabilities, and implement complex algorithms. Many of these capabilities involve mathematics- and physics‑intensive solutions that are critical to overall system performance. The position also includes participation in requirements and test-case reviews related to developed software.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and:
5+ years of experience with a bachelor’s
3+ years with a master’s
1+ year with a PhD
Active, in-scope DoD Secret security clearance
Recent and extensive experience developing software in C, focused on building novel applications
Ability to quickly learn and absorb new concepts
Recent experience with MATLAB and/or Python
Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems
Ability to work in an in-person, closed-area environment
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience with Linux scripting and operations
Experience with automated software requirements testing and analysis
Experience with battle management or fire control systems
Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration
Experience with Behavior Driven Development (BDD) using tools such as Gherkin or Cucumber
Experience with static/dynamic code analysis and fuzzing tools (e.g., Coverity, Fortify, SonarQube)
Experience developing software within a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environment
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized development workflows
Experience with software change control, code quality, static analysis, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, GitLab, SonarQube, Coverity, Jenkins)
Strong background in mathematics and physics
Advanced degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science
