We are seeking a Systems Integration Engineer to be an integral member of an artificial intelligence and machine learning prototyping team developing capabilities that enable users to harness a wide set of algorithms and data sources to accomplish numerous missions that are critical to the defense of our nation.
As a Systems Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for working with both the system developers and, at times, the end-users to deploy hardware, software, and sensor systems to prototype and delivery cutting edge intelligent systems. You will install and configure hardware and software, verify the network connectivity and system performance, and work closely with onsite personnel to troubleshoot issues and train system users and maintainers. You will also have the opportunity to devise and implement solutions locally and in the field, for both experiments and operational deployments.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. - Work with an experienced, highly-capable AI/ML development team to solve current national security problems.
- Help design and maintain lab computer systems in support of AI/ML prototyping activities.
- Master the configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of sophisticated information systems.
- Take a hands-on role in system configuration to represent real-world platform configurations and maintain knowledge of fielded configurations to support remote troubleshooting.
- Support installation, field testing, troubleshooting, and training at various sponsor field sites and military facilities.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Possess four years of technical professional experience installing computer hardware and software systems to support industrial or national security applications, to include operating system and network configuration.
- Possess or acquire within six months of employment CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Security+ or comparable certifications and comply with requirements for privileged users of information systems.
- Have experience working with system users to ensure that needs are met and continuity of operations is maintained.
- Are passionate about working in a high-paced environment supporting the real-world operational needs of a wide variety of end-users.
- Are excited to engage with, teach, and learn from others.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
- Possess a MS degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Possess experience configuring Linux and Windows, to include shell or PowerShell scripting and networking.
- Have knowledge of configuring and administering SQL database systems.
- Have working knowledge of a ubiquitous programming languages, e.g., C/C++, Java, Python.
- Hold an active Secret or higher clearance.
Special Working Conditions: There are some special aspects to the job that you should be aware of:
- Some work outside normal working hours and on weekends for operations and maintenance might be rarely required.
- Occasional travel and work at government facilities including underway on aircraft and ships, requiring work outside of and in excess of a typical work week.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds to facilitate the moving and installation of hardware.
